I've noticed some of the Ohio Sppedweek shows seem to be running shorter features than in the past (Fremont went 35 and 30 when they used to go 40, Wayne County only went 25). Is this an effort to save on tires, keep tracks from rubbering up, or avoid fuel stops?

A couple or 3 of the 5 reduced the advertised distance due to the extreme heat/save tires

Makes you wonder if the knoxville nationals will be shortened to 25 laps again. If tire shortages are a problem running 50 laps with 24 cars would use up 48 right rears to run.

That week alone will use up a lot of tires.

Wayne Counties shortening may have been due to possible impending weather.

Are team supposed to use only 1 tire per night unless it goes flat?

Or do they start each feature with a new one?

What do they do with a tire that only has a heat race and TT on it?

  1. You are old school.  If fans could vote they would stay with twin 25.  The drivers are going flat out.  Do you really think a driver is going to lay back in 4 th place then go for it the last 10 laps.

It's the new way. Your weekly home track features for the featured class should be 25 laps. The filler classes should get laps with a time limit imposed.

Any traveling series, the A main should be 35 to 40 laps in my opinion.  It puts more emphasis on the set ups and who is going to be fast in the closing stages.

I think 2 25 lap segments is fine but they need to race to the 25th jsp and every one j ow the running order at thatap set the next stage. There have been years were drivers advance on the 26th lap only to loose the position.

Dare is say do it like nascar, predetermined stages.

But why not use a silver crown tire and fuel tank and race non stop?

No! You dare not say do anything like NASCAR. The last NASCAR race I turned on they started talking someone winning a segment and I thought what the hell is that. Haven't watched one since. Port Royal has run the Tuscarora Fifty for many years on one tire with few issues, They do have a fuel stop at 25 laps.

Haven't noticed that any distances being changed. Most of the shows have always been about 30laps and as Kingpin pointed out, Wayne County may have been due to the severe storms we had here in Ohio that night. I went to Fremont last year and seem to remember 30laps being ran there also.

As for the Knoxville conversation that has been injected into this thread: Keep it at 50 and leave it alone. It has worked and as Ford said, look at all of the moments that we have had because of it moving to 50 that definately would not have happened if it were 30. 30 just makes it seem like just a regular race, 50 makes it better. I don't get all of the crying over fuel stop and the changing of tires midway especially that ever since it has happened more often than not, everyone leaves satisfied and if you don't that is your problem.
