Wasn't one of the Knoxville or Eldora races last year invite only?

I don't think you want inexperienced drivers at Bristol.

If I recall correctly the Governors reign at Eldora was invite only. There were 4 spots to fill by fan voting.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Keep making to many events exclusive members or invite only and you will kill the sport off all together. Just my opinion. Lots of guys work hard all week to afford to race with the big dogs and now all of sudden it's like since they are not the chosen ones they don't even get a shot on a big stage to make a name for themselves in their own equipment. It's almost like we're trending to be more like NASCAR.... that seems like a good idea.

Invite only, so know there going to market this deal so that everyone believes that only the best of the best will be there. Do the all stars have dates the same weekend ? WG and PR upping there purse this year why would teams go to Bristol to chase outlaws around the track ? But the 69k team did get a healthy incentive to tow all the way out to Arizona I'm sure.

This is probably the only occasion all year where I'd think is a good idea
Lack of horsepower is one issue for smaller budget teams. Be a bad look on such a hyped event. Those who have the HP, I'm sure they want a clean race with as little carnage as possible. Not to mention with let's say 48 cars they already know what kind of time table they have to get a show in

It works well for promotion and scheduling. Everyone has only looked at it from the negative side disallowing cars to come. Perhaps they fear that they won't get 48 teams since the lower horsepower guys may not even want to show up to get whipped. Maybe it's a strategy to ensure they get 48 cars. I don't know how many guys like to race for 10th or less. Just a thought from a different perspective.

All Stars are off that weekend so a majority of them will be at Bristol and invited if it is invite only. Not sure what the cap is but I am sure they will be able to find enough quality cars no matter where they are from.
Personally I do not think this hurts the event at all. Went to Knoxville last year where it was I believe a 48car invited cap and was able to see everyone that I would have liked to have seen and the racing was great. Can't really think of anyone that I would have gone "all shucks if driver xyz were there it would have been much better."

It's for safety reasons. They did this the other times they ran with dirt at Bristol. The speeds and the visibility with the wing on that banking caused some concern. If you remembr, they also kept the fans back 30 rows or so for fear of flying parts and or cars. Limiting the field to qualified and experienced teams for this event makes sense as one off's attract alot of cars. Keep 'em in the park boys!

See the latter years of Syracuse Outlaw races on the mile. I think that is what they are trying to avoid.

I understand where you're coming from, but those days of the local hero beating the traveling outlaw teams when they come to town have long past. That's if they ever existed. It's true that Pennsylvania has some good local racers who can compete on their local tracks. Bristol doesn't have any weekly, local 410 racers. Any weekend racer who would drive to Bristol to race is not doing himself a favor.
It might be different where you are, but my recollection is this. When the WoO comes to town, some of the local boys get in over their heads and tear up a lot of equipment. That's at their local track, not somewhere like Bristol that takes more skill, more experience and more money to race fast and safe. When the WoO comes to your local track, the local guys also end up filling the B-main, running for about 35 cents in purse money. In this day, the chance of Joe Local putting a whooping on the WoO is about 1 in 10,000. The chances of him doing it at Bristol are probably closer to 1 in 1,000,000.

Then why even have it? That track is too big and high banked for sprint cars. Yeah they'll be crazy fast but the racing will suck and the cost just to run there competetively will be astronomical for most teams. Leave Nascar country to the fendered cars and reschedule that weekend to real sprint car track. JMO
