Interesting. I found a few photos online. It looks like his main sponsor was Foreign Cars Ltd in Langhorne PA (?). The photo was of an old-old school, winged sprint car. That 45 years ago?

I met Steve during my senior year in college.  He was a freshman on the track team, I was a football player and wrestler.  Steve was a pole valter IIRC and was very good one and he also had some success in other events.  I talked to him in the pits after a midget race at Grandview the Sunday before his fatal accident and asked him if he was going to go to Selinsgrove the next Saturday as they were running ARDC and Sprints and he said no, he was doing well in Lincoln's points and would be there and asked me where I was  going and I said Selinsgrove, and we would catch up in the following weeks.  Normally I would drive up from the Philladelphia area on Friday night, pick up my dad who lived in Western Lancaster County and we would head to Williams Grove, and then I was planning to stay at mom & dad's house and head up the Susquehanna River for the race at Selingsgrove. At the time I was working a very good summer job (I was a school teacher) and was asked to work a double shift on Friday so I did not make the race at "the Grove."  Early Saturday I received a phone call from dad and he was very excited to let me know that Steve won Friday at Williams Grove.  I almost changed my plans and went to Lincoln with the idea I would be able to congratulate Steve on his win!, I am so glad I did not change my plans and did not go to Lincoln.  On Sunday, I woke up with this "down attitude" and I could not shake it.  My future wife and I were on our way to Dorny Park after mass and she asked me if there was anything wrong.  I said not really and I just thought I was tired from getting back from Selingsgrove so late.  We were listening to radio and the news break was on and as the announcer said something to the effect of a local tragedy occured last night, before he continued I pointed to the radio and said "Steve Howard was killed last night!"  To this day I have no idea why or how I knew, but I knew something was wrong.  I almost gave up racing that day, and in fact I did not attend another race the rest of the year.  Sorry for taking up so much space, but a lot of mixed feelings going on, happy memories and sad memories.  Take care, be safe!

Thanks for sharing. Steve was very good racer and on his way up. I believe he had the talent to be one of the greats from central PA.  I remember him well. Always seemed to have a smile on his face and time to chat with fans.

Hello from wayback.  Big Stevie Howard fan back in the day.  The guy was personable, appeared to be a future on-the-rise driver and was a beginning part of a "new" era in sprint car stars in Pennsylvania. Driver death at a track, the "bad" part of auto racing.  Question?  I believe Stevie Howard was accepted to attend dental school, that fall, at Temple University, in Philadelphia.  Is this true or just an unfounded rumor?  Anybody know?  E-mods..............................  Want ad from todays Times from London, England.  Driver seeking competitive sprint car ride (wingless), have helmet, will travel.  Also, in need of a new physical therapist (preferably young, blond, female and Covid-19 negative).  Contact Lewis H., London England.  Seems reasonable.  E-mods, again..............
