With most teams already slated to be in Iowa that week, opportunity to run 3 individual shows, and a pretty attractive purse on Sat night how many cars do you expect at this event?  Most 410 tracks acroos the country take this week off, so I would think most of the Posse guys come out? I am hoping we see 70+ cars. Optimistic maybe but one things for sure 30-40 of the best sprint cars on the planet will be there!! Im ready for the COVID-19 "Not-Knoxville Nationals"!!

I would guess 50-60 cars, much like the June Outlaw show-----which would be perfect

I doubt if any Posse guys will drive that far... its not $150,000 to win, is it?

Yea they'll probably be at the other 3 day $400,000 total purse show closer to home.

Even though it's not the "real" Nationals, it's still going to be a great show. With racing on the ropes with covid all across the country, I think you'll have lots of teams in the area. Considering the 360 Nationals, Oskaloosa races, All Star show, and a $20,000 to win Huset's show all in a small amount of time, Knoxville should see at least 60-70 cars in my opinion.

I'm thinking Macri will go...maybe Dietrich and Zearfoss.

Is it for sure 3 stand alone shows or will Friday and Saturday influence Saturday?  Also, are there support sprint classes or just 410s?  Lastly, does anyone have a room for the Nationals that they won't be using for the NOTionals?

3 stand alone shows, Thursday & Friday are 10,000 to win shows and Saturday is $50,000 to win, $3000 to start the A. Not sure if there is a different format for Saturday or if the regular Cappy Classic format will be used. Does not show any support classes. I believe there are still rooms available in Newton & Oskaloosa.

Think the car count should be pretty good. Had about 53cars in June for 2 $10,000 to win shows and currently this is the biggest paying purse to this point for the Saturday show. 50,000 to win & $3000 to start is still a pretty good pay day even though the standard has been increased quite a bit the past couple of years.

One of the reasons the Nats get so many cars is because you have a reasonable shot at 3 good paydays, given the invert allows some slower cars the chance to make the A main on prelim night, the Friday program has an excellent purse with 16 of the fastest guys not running and the excellent purse breakdown in the B through E mains on Saturday.

If it's just a normal 3 day WoO show you don't have as many opportunities not to mention its 40% of the normal purse.

Still should get 50-60, any more than that would be gravy.

You could be right but I'd be surprised

Dietrich has never done well at Knoxville Nats at all, left early one year

I'm confident that there will be a lot of them and I am not hung up on huge numbers.  A lot of the shows I have gone to over the years were at or just barely over 24 so that would be my minimum which I'm sure they'll probably triple.  I'm guessing in the 75 range, maybe more, maybe less.  Regardless of the number of cars me and the cats will have the HDTV fired up for this one.  wink

I would love to see 75 cars. I have seen about a dozen races so far this year, including the 6 nights of chili bowl. Driving in from So California. Hope we get a good show.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'well' is at the Nationals for a guy that generally only sees the track once before the Nationals (the Cappy Classic).  Dietrich made the A in the 2015 Nationals... started 17th and ran 15th.

He had decent speed last year during the Cappy in making the show (76 cars tried, only 24 succeeded).  On his qualifying night at Nationals last year he was 4th quick, but didn't make it out of heat and was one spot out of a transfer in the B.  If he transfers out of that B, he probably locks himself into the B on Sat at worst.  As it was, during the Friday program, he had speed again...  but blew a tire in his heat going flatout into T3... wrapped his car into a banner, junking it.  He did leave early... but would've been in the E Main Sat, so don't blame him.  At the risk of sounding like a Dietrich apologist, his limited body of work last year leads me to believe that with any luck, he can put it in the show on Sat this year... hope he comes out.

Have a safe and fun trip.  I'm about 5 1/2 or 6 hours depending on stops but I'll be watching from home.

Macri and Zearfoss are both entered for the 360 Nats, so they'll be running the whole week I'm sure. Add Marks, maybe Rahmer.

"I guess it depends on what your definition of 'well' is.... true

Considering level & amount of competition at Nationals, as well as big purse, I have to admit that making the A & passing 2 cars is pretty good

Not sure how any times he's been there or his record, he didn't do so great at my 3 visits to Nats... too lazy to look it up at the moment...

He was 16th in the B in 2013 and 2014.  16th in the B in 2013 was good for Rookie of the Nationals.  He was 15th in the A in 2015, as noted.  He was 24th in the B in 2016 and 9th in the B in 2017.  He had a poor showing in 2018... was going to start in the back of the C, but was a DNS... think he headed back home.  Like I said, he was close to locking into the B again last year on his qualifying night... but had to run the Friday hooligan, and a blown tire and turn 3 fence junked a car.

Mansfield had a race that paid like 15G or so to win Saturday night in 2018. He went there. Finished 2nd or 3rd I believe.

Steel trap memory!  Cap Henry took home $20k... Dietrich was 3rd.  Are they even racing at Mansfield any more these days??  Damn shame if not, with all the work they put into that place.
