Anyone know of tracks near Pocono Raceway or any big races that are usually held in conjunction with that weekend? We may attend the Nascar race there and only wanna go if we can pair if with some Pennsylvania sprint car racing! Thanks.

Are you looking for a sprint car track or just any short track? Most of the tracks running 410's during that weekend are hours away. If you are looking for a dirt track, Big Diamond Speedway runs small block modifieds on Friday night and is an hour southwest of Pocono. Penn Can also runs Friday nights and is an hour 15 minutes north of Pocono. Hope this helps.

Port Royal Speedway is the closest track to Pocono Raceway running sprint cars, and is approximately 125 miles away

Better off just going for the sprint car races. Pocono sucks. You can't see shit there.

Williams Grove is about 130 miles from Pocono.

While in the US Army in 1969 I drove from New Cumberland (~10 miles from WG) to Tobyhana (~15 mi from Pocono) in under 1 1/2 hours.

Your time may vary based on traffic, weather, and law enforcement.

It may have helped that I left at 4:30 am and was driving an OD Green US Army car. Smile

Thanks for all the replies! We always try to cram as much as we can into race weekends. Is Pocono really that bad as some say???

I have been to Pocono at least 7 or 8 times over the years for both Nascar and Indy Car races.  The problem is the shape of the track. The triangle design makes the back stretch so far from the grandstands that it is hard see the action. The higher up in the grandstands, the better the sightlines.

Don't worry . You'll be able to move around the grandstand as much as you want. Grandview for the modifieds and port royal for the sprint cars you won't be disappointed.

Pocono was the first Nascar track I went to as a kid back in 1999 & 2000. Race was pretty fun and fast. We sat in the bleachers they put in under the big main grandstand so we could not see the two back stretches for the most part, just turn two, the front stretch, and turns 1 & 3. If you sit high enough you should be able to see something. Only bad thing I will say getting in and out was a huge pain, and from what I have heard from people that have gone back it has not really changed that much. If you go make sure you get there early enough. In 2000 we parked in the main lot and did not get out until about 7:30pm because they let the infield out first.

Friday and Saturday you should be able to get out of there to get to a dirt track.

Thanks.... & I don't even live there

But i spend a lot of time driving around Pa.

To original poster, lots of pretty countryside in Pennsyltucky, if you're into that kind of thing, longer drives can be fun... try back roads too (Kevin Eckert style!)
