I've seen them at Calhan, just East of Colorado Springs, twice. Both times total follow the leader. I suspect either the soil is just too arid or nobody there understands track prep.

They have occasionally raced at I-76 Speedway too... never saw it tho

Honor Speedway in Pueblo has had few 305 and non wing shows this year. Low car count.

Also the ERA Supermods run it seems like monthly at I-25 in Pueblo. Think they have one race left.

Pretty slim out there.

In Colorado you only have 5 choices.

Honor Speedway down in Pueblo is the newest,  they have midgets, non-wing and 305 but only a few times each per year.   they are building and I hope they get bigger next.

El Paso County Fairgrounds in Calhan.    This is a high desert track NE of Colorado Springs that is ALWAYS dry slick because that is the way that the promoter likes it.   They are having a non-wing, midget, late model show this weekend but generally you only get 1 good division and 7-9 other IMCA classes.  I think the midgets ran there twice this year, about the same for 305 or non-wing.

I76 Speedway in Ft Morgan.   90 minutes NE of Denver,  this place is closely aligned with El Paso and Phillips County.   They do 305s and midgets a couple of times each year.

Phillips County in Holyoke.      Far NE corner of the state,  see I76 and El Paso...basically the same promoter.

Colorado National Speedway in Erie.    30 min north of Denver, but this is an asphalt track that hosts a winged sprint weekend in late June every year.    Everything else is LM, Mods, trains, F8, etc.

I was living in the mountains in the 80s & remember seeing the ads in Denver papers for midget racing at Lakeside Amusement Park (or was it Elitch's ?) Always curious, but never went & I could kick myself now. I didn't get back into dirt track racing until about 10 years ago, after digging it in Virginia hills in the early 60s

It was Lakeside, an asphalt track that is actually still there.    A stock car accident that killed one and injured a few in the grandstands back in 1988 shut it down.   The track and grandstands are still there, the land has been used for equipment storage since.

Did you go when it was open? How was it?

I've seen a few of those vintage midgets at shows, mostly flatheads

There was one for sale at a hot rod swap meet  a few years ago for pretty cheap, but I didn't have anywhere to put it... sorely tempted tho....

Nope,  I never got to go to Lakeside CO Speedway.   I was planning on it during college summer break during the late 80s, but the fatal accident that closed it forever happened the week before I came out to visit.   I do drive down 44th past the track every couple of months and wonder.  Kevin Eckert posted a ton of pictures of the track and grandstands on his Facebook page that were taken approx 5 years ago.

Englewood Speedway is another closed asphalt track in the Denver area,  they still have reunion type car shows that draw a lot of vintage midgets and modifieds.  Colorado Vintage Openweel Racing (CVOR on Facebook) has an occasional car show away from a racetrack, they even had one at Lakeside this year that I missed.

To pretty much sum it up -not much going on here !!! Honor speedway in Pueblo has really been trying -but low car count .As far as i-76 in Ft Morgan everytime they advertise a sprint car race - none have showed up.El Paso county same deal , I think ten is the most I have seen there -so the pickings are really slim, if you venture into kansas -the URSS usually has a pretty good car count and show !!
