The time of year has arrived for one of my favorite parts of the pinnacle event known as the Knoxville Nationals - special paint schemes. A small detail, sure, but one that adds quite a bit to the overall pagentry for the greatest sprint car event in the world. Others can feel free to post if they come across any photos, shirt designs, diecasts, etc.

Opening this year is the Jason Johnson Racing 41, piloted by David Gravel, which has picked up Axalta sponsorship for this year's running.

This car is totally transformed! Can’t wait to get the shirt.

And we're off to the races with more entries. Number two belongs with Knoxville regular Bobby Mincer, with another colorful scheme about his KnoxVegas Racing mount.

It's a pretty big deal for a NASCAR sponsor like Axalta (formerly DuPont) to come over and sponsor a sprint car for the Nationals. Hopefully they stick around the sport for a while.

Adam Stern reports that industry executives say this type of sponsorship would cost around $50K.

Jeff Gordon apparently involved.

Blackbeard needs to think of some new platforms. Not that I could do any better. But you can tell it's his detail job without even having his name on it. It's always angles and points. Rinse and repeat.

Saw this as well. I originally questioned the $50K number in my mind. Chase Briscoe posted on Reddit he questioned it as well. I can't imagine a lot of the companies we see on Outlaw cars having the marketing budget for something at that rate. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure there are companies who can and do fulfill much higher amounts for a full season. Not saying Axalta isn't paying $50K, just seems high to me.

He doesn't deviate much from his basic style but I'll counter by saying this: a lot of people try to copy his style but even with all the copycats out there, his stuff still stands out. Like you said, when you see one of his designs, you know it's his. Even if it's sitting beside a car done by someone else trying to copy his style.

Love this thread. Thank you for starting it. However, is it ok to hate the #41 car appearance?  Prob has more to do with how badass it looked when Jason Johnson drove it into victory lane almost 3 years ago now.

Eh, I wouldn’t go that far. You know it’s his because he made the most out of his Kahne/Charlotte conections and got his claws in larger teams.

We should relabel this as the “Annual Blackbeard Bashing Thread”

The more things change, the more they stay the same. He does good work and either you love his style or not. Critique the cars one by one and don’t blanket hate on a very successful designer.

I believe Gravel/Gordon are friends! Hoping this will bring more great opportunities for Gravel!

I think Gravel has had some pretty good opportunities.

Perhaps, but in a sport that eats money, you can never have too many!!

Correct. Gordon was at the Patriot Nationals and was around the 41 hauler.

I like the different color on the 71BC.  Easier to tell those cars apart and the orange fits 'Sunshine'!

This kid is a gasser ! Nice to see he has a "Natty" ride. Wish him well. Interesting no negative jabs at Tyler Walker yet. Wish him well also. Oh, Tyler was a increadable balls to the wall thriller on the dirt track! No shirt that SOB was thrilling to see out here on Cali's "elbows up bull rings". Say what you will, just remember no one can belittle anyone and not humbly know that they got shit on their side of the street. Just say'n.  C-ya at the dirt track.

  From central coast of Cali.
   Peace, Out.
