Just was wondering how other Pa fans feel about most tracks running 3 or 4 div now almost every week ( besides Grove} . I started going in 60's when almost all tracks ran sprints and late models. Maybe i'm just old but hate sitting thru all the div , just too see the 410"s. With legends bringing 48 cars last wk and 305's have 40 some night, aren't 2 div enough? Just my opinion. I know tracks need the back gate money.

You have to pee and get food and drink sometime, so one "support" class is necessary.

I enjoy all types of racing and every division, so I’m fine with 4+ divisions as long as the show is ran efficiently

I prefer only two divisions (and am willing to pay a few exrta bucks to see that) but will settle for no more than three divisions on a given race night. Fortuntely for me.....most of the tracks I attend in Central Pa/NJ usually have no more than three divisions. It is another reason that I find myself now going to mostly bigger shows and not weekly races because of the "backgate" mentality.

I too began going to the local PA tracks Lincoln, Susky, Williams Grove, Hagerstown & Reading in the 60's. Excluding Reading the sprint and late model two division shows were my favorite and enough for a good show. Occasionally Lincoln would run ARDC, Mini-Stocks, etc... and most put on a good show. So while I think a sprint and late model show is best, a three division show would be fine and the max.

Exactly!   The "backgate" mentality is why weekly racing in the North Texas area sucks.   Some tracks are running upwards of seven and even eight classes.   And of course our weekly racing is 305 sprints.    I'm not going to sit through IMCA mods, sportmods, stocks, and hobby stocks.   Add to that the Factory Stocks and usually some for of "Jr" class all to see 305 sprints.   I basically only go to big shows too.

Are you going to 82 Speedway Saturday night for the Sprint Car Bandit's?

Not likely.   That's about a 2 hour drive for me.   I would like to see that track though.   If I could stay overnight I would consider it, but in this case I can't.

All the sprints and midgets you can race. Nothing else is ideal

I always equate the No Support Divisions crowd to the guys who play "speed golf". i.e. playing golf as fast as they can just to go back home. I enjoy support divisions, and I don't care how many they have. I don't go to the races just to see how fast I can get back home.

I think the biggest thing is how efficent the whole program is ran by the track. Like Larsonfan said I don't necessarily go to the races just to see how fast I can get back home, but at the same time if the quality of racing is not there or if the track is just going through the motions then its a completely different story. We all have our tastes & preferences when it comes to other forms of racing and what each of us considers quality.

For me recently I attended a race at Atomic Speedway. I like Atomic, its a good track (facility needs a little TLC) and the racing is great most of the time. However earlier this month they had 410 sprints, Late Models, Modifieds, and Sport Mods. I could have done without the Sport Mods and sorry if that offends any of the Sport Mod guys if you like them or race them. Just not my favorite division and felt the night would have been better and more efficent without them granted there were only 17 Late Models. I am not sure how many heats there were between the Modifieds & Sport Mods but it seemed like someone spun out by themselves and it seemed to take forever to get the heat race restarted. The following week they had wingless sprints, Late Models, Modifieds, and Sport Mods. I wanted to go and support the Boss Wingless sprints but decided against it because I did not want to spend a majority of the night watching some sort of modified. Had it just been Wingless, Lates, and one or the other mods then I might have gone.

Friday at Attica they will have the All Stars, Late Models, and 305s which is an almost perfect lineup. Attica runs probably one of if not the most efficent program in the country and probably could add another division & I wouldn't have a problem with it. Basically it all comes down to the quality of racing throughout the night. Watch 2.5-3hrs of great racing or watch 4-5hrs of just ok racing or worst

Completely agree. I went to a race last year where everything was rushed (due to weather so understandable) and the program only took about 2 hours and I wasn’t a fan at all. I go to the races to have a good time out and not just head home as soon as possible. I also always pony up and get pit passes so if there is a division I don’t like or intermission you can roam the pits and see what’s going on down there. As long as it’s not into the wee hours of the morning I’ll almost always stay until the last checkers drops

I like 2 divisions. Indiana Midget week is perfect, USAC Midgets  with Sprint cars as the undercard.

But if all the divisions are good, I'm OK with more, such as Eldora 4 Crown: Allstar wingers, USAC wingless midgets, Sprints & Silver Crown

Not too interested in "taxicabs:, but if thats what it takes for the track to survive, i can handle it....

Not that I'm in a hurry to go home, just find fendered classes kind of boring

Completely disagree.   I know when I head out the door I'm going to be gone 5 or 6 hours, and that's with Devils Bowl usually running either three or four classes.   Just because I don't want to sit through 6 or 7 other classes doesn't translate to wanting to get home quick.

Any program with e-mods as the undercard makes me think long & hard about attending.

Most places that run efficient shows well i am very happy with 3/4 divisions. I agree it depends entirely on the track running the show well more than the number of divisions.

Find it funny that people are complaining about car counts being too good in some of the support divisions. Your premier division drivers have to start somewhere you know?

Personally when we get to attend sprints or late models it is a holiday time and usually not with the kids. It happens so rarely I could sit there till dawn as long as the action kept moving. Dead time is aggravating. I personally want lots of cars and lots of classes and lots of heats and 40 plus lap features. But that is just because I need to fit a summer worth of racing into a week.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I agree-------mostly.  As long as the show is moving along, I enjoy the support classes.  I love seeing good racing all night long.  It's when it turns into not so good racing.  The clock means NOTHING to me.  I'm there for a full night and a good time.  I just don't want to be bored from 8:00-11:00 while I wait for the feature I paid to see.

On the other hand, there seems to be this push (from print media columnists)  for all race fans to accept all forms of racing for the sake of racing survival.  Let's just stop for a second. If I don't like Late Models (which I do by the way) I shouldn't have to be told to like Late Models.  If I think Modifieds are a good time to get a beer and a hot dog (which I do by the way) then I shouldn't have to be told to support the modifieds for the sake of our sport.  I paid for the ticket----I'll like what I like.

That said, if I sit down and the modified racing is great, and I'm entertained, I enjoy.  If it turns into a spin-fest, I get up and take a walk.  If you don't like sprint cars and prefer late models instead, more power to you.  I don't want you wasting your time showing up for a sprint car race if it isn't your thing-----just for the sake of the sport.

So---larsonfan, I agree with you 95%.  I hate a fast show and love a long night of entertainment.  But, I too can become agitated if the support classes consume too much of the evening and take away from the reason I paid for the ticket.

I couldn't agree more. I get tired of people trying to shove certain divisions down others throats. I like sprint cars only and I'm not going to apologize for it. That's just me and I like what I like. I'm not going to shit on other people who like other stuff and aren't fans of sprint car racing so don't tell me what I "should" like. It's my money, my time and my business. If I want to get up and leave after the sprint cars, I'm gonna do it and I don't need some bleeding heart telling me that people like me hurt the sport. My sport is sprint car racing and I support it as much as my time/income allows. If other divisions are struggling, that's not my fault. Maybe their fans need to be more dedicated and support THEIR sport better. It's not up to sprint car fans to carry other divisions.

I dont mind up to 2 support divisions as long as its some kind of sprint car... 360, 305, wingless, or midgets. I can handle late models. But modifieds, street stocks, dirt trucks (Fremont) or 4-bangers... get the hell outta here.
