I used to be a HUGE College Football fan (like huge) but that's trailed off the past couple years mainly due to the over corporatization of the sport, the less than palatable actions of coaches, players, etc. and other factors. All of that to say I haven't read enough about the Meyer situation to give an informed opinion, haha.

He is a scumbag.  He was a scumbag at Florida and he is a scumbag at Ohio State.  He wins games and that is the only reason he was not fired.  I think Ohio State should be looked at because Jim Tressel got fired over inproprieties as well.  GO BUCKY.  (being a Badger fan has nothing to do with the thought of him being a scumbag, he was one before he got to Ohio State)

I was born, raised, and currently live in Columbus Ohio. I graduated from Ohio State (oh I'm sorry I forgot I apparently have to say THE Ohio State University eyeroll) simply because of cost reasons. With all of that said, I agree. Living here sometimes can be exhausting because a huge portion of the population have their heads up that whole Football program's backside. The local news reports on OSU football almost every single day, does not matter what month, and it ranges from what members of the team are doing during the offseason or the spring game. A lot of people around here will quickly judge other programs for reasons that Nickules mentioned, but when it happens here they turn a blind eye to it. If this happened to Wisconson, Alabama, Texas, USC, etc people here would be calling for those coaches to be fired. However since its happening to OSU then the fans around here are trying to justify why he should keep his job.

The whole investigation and meeting was simply something for OSU to think of a way to keep Urban Meyer because they did not want to lose one of the Top 3 coaches in the country, so their precious football team wouldn't suffer. When the news broke a few weeks ago the only thing I could think was, thank god I am will be going to Knoxville for a week so I do not have to hear about this B.S. Sadly around here, winning football games is more important than having standards to some people.

I agree.  This a forum for sprint car fans.  Sprint car fans have other interests besides sprint car racing.  If you don't like a topic, skip over it.

Here is one great example of topics, OTHER than sprint cars, that can be a good thing.  A few years back, I was perusing Hoseheads and came across a topic that fails to come to mind.  In it, was egras talking about the Chicago Blackhawks.  I chimed in with my 2 cents and egras and I had 2 things in common besides racing.  I just went to my second Knoxville Nationals, WITH egras, and 4 of his buddies, some of which have been to other races with us. Had I NOT seen that topic, I would probably never have met egras and all his buddies, probably would have never been to Knoxville, and looking back, that was one of the best things to happen to me, racing wise.  egras has come to my home track, Wilmot, 3, 4 times now, and I think he will attest to the fact that he saw David Gravel win one of the most exciting races he has ever seen.  So, keep the off topics to a minimum, but keep them coming.  You may meet a 'rest of your lifetime racing buddy'

The Urban debacle is just another chapter in the book on why it is so hard to have heros in this day and age.

Kinda like my attitude about Denver Bronco fans & that Pa. guy who finds Posse fans annoying (FiXXXer?)

Its fun to root for a team or bunch of racers, but you don't have to WORSHIP them.....

Very true Maddog.  I actually like off topic conversations every once in a while.  You get to see another side to some of the other Hosers.  Sometimes, you argue about sprint car racing topics and then find you have another common interest.  For example, Murphy and I posting back and forth about the Rapid City area----where I visited last year and found out he grew up.  Who knows, I have probably shot a snarky comment his way in the past but who the hell cares?  (maybe I did maybe I didn't---who knows?)

So, how about this:  If you want to start an off-topic post, just start it like this one.  "Not racing related......"   Good enough for me.  That way, anyone who is too busy to left click two times before they realize the subject does not interest them, can simply pass on by it.  wink

What's it like to be you?  What's it like to be a person who every time something unexpected (and minor) happens, you melt down and can't handle it?

I can see it now...... Hayden drives by a Wal-Mart and sees some local organization having a car wash for charity in the parking lot.  What happens next is a dramatization.

Hayden: (thinking to himself) Whaaaa?? This is a retail store. Not a place where one is supposed to have his or her car "warshed". (He begins to see red.)

Kid: "Car wash! $10! Help support the local high school football team!"

Hayden: "HAY!! This is a WAL-MART PARKING LOT, please take this sort of fundraiser ELSEWHERE!! A car wash is where ya'll belong! Stop wasting valuable parking spaces!"

Kid: (blankly stares)
