Two thumbs up for any announcer that says this during races. There are many people with disabilities or parents with children that appreciate this. There is no reason for standing while the races are on.

Thanks Again.

I felt like after the announcement this year it was much improved over years previous. No issues with people standing this year.

Absolutely!  He has been making this request at every show I've been to this year and the crowd has listened.  Had no problems all 4 nights of the Nationals.

i hear you on this one. nothing like nicely saying "down in front please" only to catch dirty looks & someone's, or a groups ire, for the rest of the race. it usually occurs after the four-wide. thanks JG or any other announcer for looking out

I also thought it was great - I would have liked it better though if after he said it he would have added in a snarky voice "You are not at a NASCAR race"

Glad this was posted. I used to have a racing buddy who has since passed away that had terrible knees. He couldn't get up quick enough when the crowd would stand up and it was very painful to do so. Asking everyone to sit down takes care of our older race fans and any race fan with a disability. People still started standing during various points of the Saturday A-Main, but it was at least somewhat under control. If only we could train people not to stand when they see something exciting... (I personally just go with the fist pump.)

My wife has a bad back and knees and for myself, I have had 2 disks and1 vertebrae removed from my neck and it is fused together and then has a metal plate screwed in to hold it together and that is why I posted this. Even in the last couple of laps there is no reason to stand . If everyone would just stay seated while the races are on, then everyone could see from their seats. Thanks to everyone for their positive replys and thanks again to Johnny Gibson for making this announcement.

Do you know why people stand at a NASCAR race??? So they won't fall asleep while sitting down.

I agree no one should stand up while racing.  Thankfully, I am not suffering from the ailments you and your wife are suffering from and I wish you continued healing.

Looking back, I cannot remember a single Nationals where the crowd did not stand during the last 2 or 3 laps.  I do not stand until my view has been obstructed.  I don't witness this (from what I can remember) at any other track/event other than at Knoxville for the Nationals on Saturday night.  It doesn't bother me at all as I have no issues on my feet.

So, for those reading TBSprintFan's post, keep that in mind next year when you start the wave of standing up from the lower sections of the stands.  Some folks can't jump to their feet as you can.

My guess the message to sit down came from track management. I know I complained a couple years when our seats were near folks who were in a group of 3-4 rows(maybe 20 people) and stood up the entire time, some with their backs to the track all night. We couldn't see turn one and told a usher(Sheriffs Posse maybe?) and he said something to them but no action. If this was at a college Football or Basketball game or NBA/NFL the management would have tossed them out. It seemed to me these types of fans have no interest in the races but have some goofy obsession with drinking beer in public and acting stupid, as if anyone there to watch racing would care.

Sure people will stand during exciting times, but the track needs to handle it. These are usually the people that smoke all night also.

Track personel and management should take care of it.

I agree people shouldn’t stand the entire race, however to ask people to sit for the last 2 laps of an especially exciting Nationals A Main ain’t happening.

I agree it ain't happening.  I was merely suggesting people keep it in the back of their minds who may be behind them.  Once again, I have no issues with standing the last 30 seconds of the Nationals.  Some may not see because of me though and I have no choice but to stand

Some people are selfish & oblivious of others... pisses me off

Last nite some friends & I went to a GREAT concert in a small club, got there 2 hrs. early for good seats & sat thru a crappy opening act. Then a bunch of people walked in front of us ( & everybody else) & stood there. I asked waitress if she could do something about it... she just shook her head. So i yelled out "People in front... we got here 2 hours early for these seats & you're blocking our view"... believe it or not they moved... & i thanked them

SOMETIMES it works....

You don't sit down at a concert, if you do you the people standing have the right of way.

I agree 100 percent. Some people have no concept or just plain common sense when attending events.
It seems many musical groups are playing smaller venues, but it is still pricey per seat. You have the nit-wits that think they have to "groove" to the music and stand up and shake their beer at the sky all night long. Gladly where we go they usually tell them to sit down or leave.

The cost is way to high at many events(Racing, Concerts..what ever) to not be able to see. If some people are too stupid to figure it out, they should stay home.

I always try to avoid standing during any moment of a race. I know I can stand up if someone in front of me does and not really catch any flack. But being 6'6 I typically block more than the one row in front of me so I try to be respectful.

My buddy on the other hand that has a fused back and knee replacement has no problem calling people out for this annoying display. This past years Kings Royal he asked some young 20year old if the racing had been good that night. The drunk kid replied it was awesome and my buddy told him, " that's great I wish I would've seen it but I have had to look at your ugly back side all night. If you're having trouble seeing I can switch you spots so you're a little higher up, or I can go to one of the deputies and see if they can help you finding a new seat where you can see." We didn't have any issues from him or his friends the rest of the night

Well we finished off our trip in Fargo and we had an a$$ hole (a skinny scrawny drunk piece of $hit) in front of us . He did not stand all night until the feature. When asked to sit down he became a real a$$ , his friends even asked him and still no action for at least 5 laps . I was ready to make him sit down physically but didn't want to spend a night in jail or get shot ( also I'm from Canada and know that some carry guns here) . This all happened early in the feature and there was also a small boy sitting next to us. All Tracks should also have a  no smoking and drinking section and more security to help in cases like this.

It was a sit down concert in a small club with tables, not a big arena or outside festival
