got a chance to get away to the local races last weekend at lernerville

question for all of you sprint car fans

the track rubber downed after the late model feature and so the sprint feature was a mess

spinning and not going any where

so the question is how to tracks prevent this from happening

just watched the woo race at tri state and the track didn't take rubber at all and it was 40 laps

very racey track and a lot of action.

Haubstabt is pretty well considered the best race to race surface in the country, from what I've read.  I know that they will rework it during the night....not sure if they did during the WoO show though because I didn't get to watch.

I know tracks don't like putting the effort or time into reworking a track during the night, and sometimes as a fan, I don't want to have to sit through it either, but if it takes a worn out surface and makes it racey, I think I'll remember the race more than I'll remember the 45 minute intermission (as long as we don't go till 1AM)

If they were spinning and not going anywhere the track did not take rubber it was dryslick. If the track "takes rubber" it will be extremely fast have almost as much grip as pavement but usually only a car length or two wide strip. Tri state reworks the track frequently through the nite and has nice equipment for that can do it without taking to much time. Some tracks dont have that luxury. 

tri-state has a variatey of different pieces of equipment that they use for track prep. Different kinds of tillers and picking pieces, with tire rollers and all of them pulled or are on heavy duty tractors which you would think wouldnt be very good for track prep. But they have it nailed down, good process leading up to events. But during the events after hot laps and time trials for sprint cars and modifieds, theyll go out and pick/till the track and maybe put a bit of water down and run it in. Then after the heats and B feautres, theyll do the exact same thing. They do this for all their USAC/MSCS and other shows and yes they did last night for the WoO show.

The quality of dirt is alot different from one location to another.  Dirt does wear out and needs new dirt added on a regular routine. Some dirt is sandy and others are black and clay.  Some dirt takes water well and others you can water the hell out of it and it still goes dry.  Track preperation is a tough job to get it right every week.  I am glad I do not have to figure it out every week.
