Smith’s Misfortune is Dumpert’s Victory in NCRA Late Model 81 Speedway Action!
Park City, Kansas – May 12, 2018 - A mid-afternoon decision to make the trip from his York, Nebraska home, Cory Dumpert took advantage of race-long leader Delbert Smith’s misfortune to claim his first career National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products crate late model feature Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.
Smith and Brandon Givens started on the front row for the twenty-five-lap feature with Smith jumping into the lead as the green flag fell.
Smith kept the field at bay throughout the event until approaching a slower car on the white flag lap. Smith made contact and brushed the backstretch wall suffering suspension damage, ending his night. Givens would also spin in turn one, collecting Dusty Leonard and knocking them both out of a potential top five feature finish.
On the final restart Dumpert, who started seventh, held off fifth starting Dylan Schmer to claim his first-career series victory and become the 95th different series late model feature winner in the tours 35-year history.
Daniel Smith came home third while eleventh-starting Jimmy Segraves finished fourth while fourteenth-starting Adam Schrag rounded out the top five.
The tour will take two weeks off before getting back into race action on Saturday night, May 26, 2018, at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas in the first off four appearances on the 2018 race season.
