???

That he hurt his knee and the Dr.'s need to be careful about what pain killers they give him?

or that he's past his prime in a racecar and squandered those prime years away?

Vande no one can argue with you. They do have to be careful what the give him for the pain. Is Tyler past his prime. Probably. But if he is clean and having fun oh well. Yes there are plenty of drivers that probably deserve a chance to race that car.

To tell a little story. In the last 6 months I've lost 3 friends to drug overdoses. One a co worker. Another a high school friend and one a real good friend. The last one I took to rehab myself twice. Each time falling off the wagon. Now I'm not saying I'm real good friends with Tyler but I do talk to him almost every time I'm at the track. Always really down to earth. Would I be surprised if he fell off the wagon no! Most people say it's a demon you fight the rest of your life. Yes the results aren't there but if he's having fun again and staying clean who's it hurting. Would you rather him sit at home and nobody give him a chance that could turn into depression.

I thought maybe you had some other insight going off your post of:  "Everyone is missing the big picture"

When I heard he had a knee injury my first thought was "I hope this doesn't cause him to relapse".

I hope he stays clean and happy.  As long as he does that he's ok in my book.  My hope is that those close to him keep a watchful eye to help him out (he can't do it alone, I'm not sure anyone is capable of doing it alone even without the history).

Even people with no history of drug use get hooked when on presription meds for pain and their lives spiral out of control into drug addiction (the current Opiod Crisis across America is proof of that), hopefully the Dr.'s he has do their best to not prescribe any painkillers and hopefully Tyler has the willpower to refuse them even when in a lot of pain.

I spent 15 years in the pits from Coast to Coast and I am not sure if I saw a driver respond to little kids and old grandparents better than Tyler, they loved the kid young and old.  Times have changed since then as has Tyler but he still has his heart in the right spot and sometimes his head in the wrong one, this is life at it's best and worst.  He comes from good stock as his Dad Bob a sprint car racer as well as a VERY successful business man is one helluva good man as well.  Few people could do what Tyler did on the track and he did it effortlessly, he had a gift no doubt.  Others in many sports have had that as well and blew it up, I sure hope Tyler has time to recoup some of that magic.  One thing I know for sure, he was a friend back in the day and he always will be one no matter what path he chooses.  Let ye' who has not sinned cast the first stone.....

The last two times I watched him race (Williams Grove WoO and Port Royal Dream race), I watched Tyler flip out on his crew at the Grove , and flip out at the safety crew and track officials at Port. He has issues other than drug abuse. FACT.

Probably the most real response that will happen in this thread. Well said I was thinking the same thing when I read he had a shattered knee.

That stuff happens in the pits at every local track every single weekend. It's just not always caught on video. Fact .

I see a lot. But two weeks in a row I saw it in person with him, which has been a trend over the years.. NOT on video.

BS tentman, you saw him a few times in PA driving cars he likely couldn't win in.  I saw the guy in good equipment all over the country and never saw issues and I am sure there were some like there are with every driver that wants to win on a nightly basis.

The one and onIy. time a watched a complete Feature from Beer Hill I had Steve K. in the pool.  Tyler led the whole race 'till turn one on the last lap and Steve got underneath him for the win, pissed a lot of people off and I never did collect which doesn't matter.  In talking to Tyler after the race the fact Steve was behind was driving him crazy and he just waited to get passed.  Then comes the white flag, he thinks he's going to win and poof here comes Steve and it's over.  How many times did that happen, lol.....

some of you think he should be branded for the rest of his life. the negative comments are always going to be about his past i don't care if he goes on a holly tear and beats the outlaws at the national open. I wonder how many that hold Jan Oppermann in high regards, I do, would say the same thing. i saw Tyler in his days on tour, sure he came into the pits upset, have you ever driven a sprint car ? lol, i have. when your waiting at the gate to be pushed off and your adrenalin is so high and you think ok we got a chance tonight and we did everything just right. then you go out and miss the set up by what ever margin. i came back into my stall so pissed and i wanted someone to blame. so for those that have never been in a sprint car. your to dam funny. once fans started to come into the pits Tyler was always more than friendly. i hope he can find some of that magic again, because if you say or think he wasn't your sadly mistaken.

+1

Alum, your adrenaline/heat of the moment comment can be applied to just about any sport or competitve endeavor.  It happens.  Emotions, adrenaline, etc. etc. are at their height during and directly after competition.  Your body and mind literally need to "calm down" after experiencing such a high.  So if anyone on here has ever competed in any endeavor that requires physical and mental exertion they'd at least have a modicum of understanding this.  I can still remember literally shaking before and after games.  So yeah, emotions happen.

Tentman, Tyler is a fierce competitor which is one of the reasons he has had the success he has.  If you are foolish enough to think that not up to par equipment isn't enough to make somebody go off you're not in the game, this is often the number one reason drivers get pissed off along with dirty sliders etc....

Car is capable, historically,  of running up front. Tyler's won in it before as has Justin Henderson and Chad Kemenah in previous years. Definitely has been a struggle this year. Too many dnq's.

BTW Tyler Walker (and Harli White, guess she found a 410 to rent) has entered 410 Nats.  Not sure what's going on with his injury, but Knoxville Tweeted (below) that he entered...

my guess is that it was in the mail prior to his injury.
