Sooner Late Models travel to Southern Oklahoma Speedway Friday

Visit Elk City Speedway on Saturday

By John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (June 20, 2017) - Two night of racing are on tap for the Sooner Late Model Series this weekend and it begins Friday night at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore.

It will be the first visit to Southern Oklahoma Speedway this season after rain washed out the May 19th program.

Rain has actually washed out two of the last three scheduled events. The last event took place on May 20th at Oklahoma Sports Park where Jason Redman picked up his first career victory winning over series points leader Jay Sale. The victory moved Redman into a second place points tie with Logan Ellis. Both Redman and Ellis will be trying to gain ground on Sale who has won two of the four events run this season.

After a night on the Southern Oklahoma Speedway 3/8's mile oval the series will travel west on I-40 for a first ever visit to Elk City Speedway. Also a 3/8's mile oval, not many tour regulars have set foot on the Elk City oval and it will be a test to see who can quickly find the winning setup.

In the points race Wayne Bush trails Ellis and Redman in fourth by 45 points. Steven Hawkins is fifth. Looking at the top ten to date only Sale and Redman have feature victories.

Gates open at Southern Oklahoma Speedway at 5 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7:30.

Southern Oklahoma Speedway is located on the south side of Ardmore, Take I-35 exit 29, go east on Hwy 70 for 0.7 miles then south on Hwy 77 for two miles.

Gates open at 6 at Elk City with races starting at 8. Elk City Speedway is located west of town on I-40, Take exit 34, then 0.5 miles north on Merritt Rd (CR BK 31), then 0.3 miles west on CR BK 2.
