Their schedule only has them @ Knoxville twice this season if memory serves (June for Outlaw show and Nationals).

The Teams announced schedule was very hit and miss and no specific geographic area.  Seems that even with the driver change they are still following that schedule.

It doesn't seem to matter who drives the car...as long as the driver doesn't want to drive the damn thing too often...

He runs mostly the USAC Soutwest series. He's a young driver with some talent...nearly beat Brian Clauson at Vegas last year in the non-wing show that ran with WoO. I saw him win at Canyon last year in a Southwest Series race.

He was not neccesarily a "winged guy". I think this past weekend maybe have only been his 8th-10th start in any kind of winged car....

I bet it's an easier transition for a non-wing racing to get used to a winged car, verses the other way around.

Don't bet more than you can afford to lose.

I understand that everybody has an opinion on wing verses non-wing sprint car racing. I've seen both and I like both. .  I'm in an area with virtually no non-wing sprint car racing.

I was basing my opinion on the idea that it seems a lot of guys who raced without wings made it good when they transitioned to winged cars. Anybody who raced in the WoO before 1982, or USAC guys that transistioned to  racing winged sprints for example. What you don't see is a lot of guys with winged backgound making the change to non-winged. That probably says more about the economics of sprint car racing than anything else.

Been a while since I saw it (probably 6 weeks now) but they didn't have near the midwest racing on it as you'd think.  Very hit and miss across the US in 360 and 410 racing.  Think they had Devil's Bowl as one of their events, so it will be interesting to see if they show up there or somewhere else or nowhere this weekend.

I can't disagree with your logic, but I would point out that Jac had about 8 years of non-wing racing before wings came into widespread use in about 1982.

Thanks for the reply. I'll take your word for it. Out of curiosity, which one was more fun to race?

Smith said that night was his first weekend running without a wing. That race was pretty cool.

I always said racing wasn't "Fun". But enjoyed it for 20 years. Fun is when I hop on my motorcycle and go to a race and then ride home without having to worry about getting ready for the next race or paying for the next part or being aggravated at a bad night.                            There are some very talented people involved with both types and I'm talking driver and crew but I always felt the depth of that talent went deeper with the wing cars.  Couple that with there is just more money to be had with a wing and it was more rewarding to do well with a wing.
