LEBANON, MO – July 3, 2007 – Clint Smith found a clean groove and rode it to victory in Tuesday night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Missouri 50’ at Lebanon I-44 Speedway.
The Senoia, Ga., star marched forward from the 10th starting spot to grab the lead from Rick Eckert of York, Pa., on lap 28. He controlled the remainder of the distance to pocket $10,000 for his third tour triumph of the 2007 season. Smith, 42, survived a rough-and-tumble race that saw a rash of flat tires dive-bomb the hopes of several contenders, including early leaders Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., and Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill. Shirley rallied from his lap-24 pit stop for a new tire to finish second, 1.282 seconds behind Smith. He overtook Eckert for the spot on lap 47. Eckert settled for third, followed by WoO LMS points leader Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., and Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga.
