Haudenschild Hauls in Cash at Red River Valley

West Fargo, ND—June 30, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director

Jac Haudenschild has lost plenty of races during his career after having a tire go down while leading, and on Saturday night in the finale of the Duel in the Dakotas at Red River Valley Speedway, he won one in that same way, as Brooke Tatnell lost a left rear tire with just four laps remaining in the third event of the "SuperClean Summer of Money" on ESPN2.

Haudenschild who was running second to Tatnell on a lap 26 restart took the lead the next lap as Tatnell began to slow with a flat left rear tire. Haudenschild rolled by on the high side of track in turns three and four.

From there he set sail, leading the final four laps and winning by nearly two seconds over Jason Sides, who led early in the race. Haudenschild pocketed $10,000 for his first A-Feature win of the season.

"The car felt good all night," said Haudenschild, driver of the Wright One Construction Maxim. "I have been quicker here the last few races and have been qualifying better. The guys have been working hard on the car and having driving good."

Haudenschild and his team will be able to savor the win overnight and view it on ESPN2 on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, 11:30 a.m. Central. While he has won on television in the past, Haudenschild was proud to add his name to the list of driver's that have won an event on ESPN2 this season. That list now stands at three, as three different drivers have claimed checkered flags in the first three "SuperClean Summer of Money" events.

"It's nice to win when you are on TV, that's for sure," noted Haudenschild. "We were good last night and it wasn't on TV. It's always good to win a televised show."

After nearly winning on Friday night at River Cities Speedway, Haudenschild's team made some changes to the car and were confident that the adjustments they made would work. While celebrating his win in victory lane, Haudenschild was presented a special trophy as he was the overall champion of the Duel in the Dakotas by way of his win and second-place finish in the two events in North Dakota.

"We have been better the last few races and we have a better motor in there right now," said Haudenschild. "Hopefully we can keep it going like this for the rest of the year."

The race started with Sides on the pole leading and opening up a sizeable advantage before he and Tatnell encountered heavy lapped traffic. On the 11th lap Tatnell dove low in the first turn and took the lead from Sides. The very next lap, Haudenschild ducked under Sides for the runner-up spot.

The red flag flew on the 15th lap for Jason Meyers, giving Haudenschild and Sides a shot at Tatnell on the restart. The native of San Souci, NSW, Australia used a strong restart to pull away before encountering lapped traffic, which helped Haudenschild close on him.

After Tatnell's misfortune, Sides inherited the second spot. It was his second runner-up finish of the season and his 12th Top-10 finish of 2007. Though he was disappointed he did not pick up his first win of the season, Sides found the positives of his strong run.

"Second is better than hitting the wall while leading like we did at Granite City (Tri-City Speedway in Illinois)," said Sides, driver of the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim. "All in all it was a good night for us. We have been struggling for the last six or eight nights and to run good and lead laps and start up front is good for us. We just need to be able to keep this going."

Joey Saldana started fifth and finished third on Saturday night. He battled Randy Hannagan for a number of laps, before passing him the 15th circuit to claim the third position. He then chased down Sides and Haudenschild, but was never able to get a run on the front two.

"It was a good night for us," said Saldana, driver of the Open Joist Mopar-powered JEI. "We'll take a top-two finish and move on. We had a really good car.

Hannagan finished fourth to earn his second Top-Five finish n three "SuperClean Summer of Money" events. He led laps in the first event of the series on June 16 at Knoxville Raceway.

"It was a good run," said Hannagan, driver of the Penthouse Magazine Maxim. "We ran fourth in the dash and fourth in the feature. It is a testament to the team. We have a good team, a good car, and a good motor. We had a little different motor in tonight than last night and it showed in qualifying. That's what seems to matter right now."

Sides was very strong early in the race and in open track opened up some sizeable advantages. He consistently turned some of the fastest laps of the race in the early going.

"It was a lot better to be out front with the way the track was," said the native of Bartlett, Tennessee.  "Early on you could pass on the bottom, but it got to be so fast at the top, that you could not get off the top. When we got to traffic I didn't chose the right lines and checked up a little bit. I got the tires spinning and that is when they caught me and passed me."

Saldana won the third heat to earn a spot in the Crane Cams Dash where he finished fifth to earn that same starting position in the A-Feature. He valiantly tried to work his way higher than third, but that was a very tough proposition.

"It was very tough to pass, nearly impossible," said Saldana. "It took me the whole race to pass one car. "We just smoked our left rear tire off trying to race that one car. We tried to race with (Jason) Sides at the end and had no tires left. That's the way it goes."

Hannagan was hoping to see the race go from green-to-checkers. That plan was interrupted once by the mid-race red flag and then again with just four laps remaining when the yellow flew.

"I think it was kind of bad," noted Hannagan of not encountering as much lapped traffic as he would have liked. "I think we would have been better in traffic. We were a little free and I think we could have rolled through a few spots on the race track and maybe gained a spot or two, but we'll never know."

Danny Lasoski started sixth in the A-Feature and wound up fifth in the Roth Motorsports JEI, after pacing the field in time trials. The 2001 series champion now has 29 Top-10 finishes.

Donny Schatz finished sixth in the ParkStore J&J at his home track, with Jason Solwold seventh in the City Wide Insulation Maxim. Steve Kinser was eighth in the Q Oil Maxim, with Paul McMahan ninth in the Bass Pro Shops Eagle, and Craig Dollansky 10th in the Karavan Trailers Maxim.

Haudenschild's win was the 45th of his World of Outlaws career, as he solidly sits in the ninth spot on the all-time win list, just one behind Bobby Davis Jr. for ninth.
