Sodeman gets third Sprint win, King Sr. leads Big Block feature to win, Weller Jr. victorious in E-Mods, Albrecht leads Limited Sprint feature, Dellinger wins Pro Stock feature and Fuchs charges to Hobby Stocks victory
HARTFORD, Ohio (July 19, 2010) – 6 PAK Saturday at the 3/8-mile dirt oval at Sharon Speedway saw Jack Sodeman Jr. win his third Gibson Insurance Agency 410 Sprint feature, Rex King Sr. earn a Governor Insurance Inc. Big Block Modified victory, Jim Weller Jr. come up with an E-Mod win, Bill Fuchs charge to a Hobby Stock win and Alan Dellinger get his third straight Pro Stock win.
In his second visit to Sharon Speedway this season, Brian Smith (Fremont, Ohio) set sail in the Gibson Insurance Agency 410 Sprint feature to lead 24 cars. Sprints points leader Jack Sodeman Jr. tried to track him down as Craig Keel and Brian Lay (Geneva, Ohio) competed for the third spot. Rod George (Kittaning, Pa.) was running in fifth before a fifth-lap caution.
Sodeman dove into the bottom, but Smith held onto his lead. Keel, George and Lay traded places running third, fourth and fifth. Sodeman got his chance to pass for the lead on lap 14. George passed Keel for third on lap 13 as Gale Ruth Jr. moved into fourth with company in Lay.
With two to go, Sodeman was picking through lap traffic, Smith, in second, was holding off George as Lay took fourth away from Keel. Sodeman picked up his third win of the season at Sharon Speedway coming across the line, followed by Smith in second, George in third, Lay in fourth and Gale Ruth Jr. in fifth.
Gale Ruth Jr., Sodeman and Brent Matus were the heat winners in Gibson Insurance Agency 410 Sprints.
Division points leader Rex King Sr. went straight to the lead in the 20-lap Governor Insurance Inc. Big Block Modified 20-lap feature, putting up some distance between him and Kevin Bolland in second. Del Rougeux was running third as Tommy Mattocks held off Rob Curtis to stay in fourth.
A sixth-lap, double-file restart saw Mattocks jump into fourth and Rex “Cooter” King Jr. move into fifth, making a pass for fourth on the eighth lap and running side-by-side with Rougeux for several laps. King Sr. remained in control to earn the Big Block victory and stay atop the points standings.
Rougeux and Bolland went wheel-to-wheel on the last three laps with Rougeux finishing second over Bolland, with Cooter King finishing fourth and Tommy Mattocks rounding out the top five.
Jim Weller Jr. and Mattocks were the heat winners in Governor Insurance Inc. Big Block Modifieds.
Howard Fraley charged out to a lead in the 21-car E-Mod A-Main event, with Jim Weller Jr. running in second on an inside line. Weller passed on a restart on the third lap, as Fraley and Scott Stiffler ground Weller stayed in the middle groove and in the lead, with Fraley in second and Stiffler holding off Alan Dellinger to stay in fourth on the seventh lap.
While Weller had several lengths on the field, Fraley, Stiffler, Dellinger and division points leader Jeff Johnson were dicing and slicing around the 3/8-mile dirt oval for the second through fifth places. It came to a climax when Dellinger and Fraley got into each other and spun through turn two with one to go. As they came across the line, Weller held onto the lead, Stiffler second, Johnson third, Jim White fourth and Dellinger fifth.
E-Mod heat winners were Joe Gabrielson, Alan Dellinger and Jeff Johnson.
Jason Scoville (Warren, Ohio) first led the Limited Sprint feature, followed by A.J. Albrecht (Warren, Ohio) in second and Adam Kekich (Hermitage, Pa.) in third and Jonathan Frederick in fourth. But a hard-charging Guy Griffin, starting at the rear of the field, was looking to make moves on the race leaders.
A caution on lap eighth brought the field nose-to-tail, with Griffin running in fourth, before a three-car incident in turn two brought the car count to six. Kekich pulled to the infield on the the restart, giving Griffin third. Albrecht looked inside, Scoville stayed outside. Chad Matthews ran in fourth, followed by Brandon Arnett. Scoville managed to hold off the threats from Albrecht to lead from checkered-to-green and record his second Limited Sprint feature at Sharon Speedway. Albrecht finished second, his sixth top-five finish and points leader Griffin finished third, followed by Matthews in fourth and Arnett in fifth.
Griffin was the Limited Sprint heat winner. He also remains atop the Limited Sprint point standings.
Bill Fuchs, starting third, got a great start in his Saturn in the Hobby Stock A-Main, as the rest of the pack went five-wide through turns one and two. Rob McElhaney, in a purple Cavalier, found himself in third between the Sprouses, with Lucas Sprouse ahead and Randy Sprouse behind, but McElhaney passed Lucas Sprouse down back stretch on lap three to take second.
Hobby Stock points leader Michael Scharba, starting in 11th, found himself running third by the sixth lap in his black-and-green Neon. Chris Robertsm in a Neon, moved up from eighth to take over fourth position, but for fifth, by the ninth lap, Scott Gilliand, the Sprouses and Mitch Stokes were fighting hard for the fifth place position. Across the line on lap 12, Fuchs got the checkered, followed by Scharba, McElheney in third, Roberts in fourth and Stephen Walker rounded out the top five. Walker was also the Hobby Stock heat winner.
Allan Hudzik (Youngstown, Ohio) started on the front row and stayed out in the lead for the first seven laps. Paul Davis took second from Tim Burns on the first lap, as Jamie Duncan moved into fourth with pressure from Rich Howell. There were hard-fought battles around the track as the caution came out for Davis, who went into the wall of turn three.
Restarts and Hudzik's slide through turn four gave Dellinger, having started 12th, a chance to take the lead on the eighth lap and moved Burns into second, Duncan into third and Howell in fourth. Duncan ran the middle groove to stay in fifth. Bruce Redman was making some moves on Duncan before jumping the cushion and heading to the infield on the 12th lap.
Dellinger won his third straight Pro Stock feature at Sharon Speedway, followed by Burns, Duncan in third, Howell in fourth and Brian Carothers finishing out the top five. Dellinger leads the Pro Stock point standings.
Dellinger and Duncan were the Pro Stock heat winners.
