Lonnie Wheatley, BRAINERD, Minn. (September 2, 2007) – Closing in on the American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region championship, 19-year-old Lee Grosz captured his first career ASCS feature win by topping Sunday night's 25-lap Mighty Axe Nationals finale at North Central Speedway.
Grosz became the second first-time ASCS winner in as many nights at North Central Speedway as Jerry Richert, Jr., also snared his first series win in Saturday's feature event.
After earning the pole position for the main event, Grosz gunned into the lead at the outset and led throughout aboard Doug Howells' Wesmar-powered Bergstrom Electric/Hi-10 Sports Center No. 4J J&J.
Grosz was chased to the line by fellow front row starter Brad Barickman, with Richert, Sye Anderson and Chris Graf rounding out the top five.
With the triumph, Grosz extended his ASCS Northern Plains points lead to 112 points heading into next Saturday night's championship season finale at Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD.
