FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For More Information: Marie A. Osborn, Public Relations: Elite Racing/Jason Meyers Cellular: 616.498.1796 Email: [email protected] Jason Meyers Quietly Movin' on up in Outlaw Point Standings Great Points Week; In Reach of Third Place CLOVIS,
Calif. (September 16, 2007) –Jason Meyers
and the Elite Racing World of Outlaws (WoO) team has been trying some new
things over the last week, some that have worked, and some that haven't, but
the end result has been that Meyers now sits within reach of third place in the
WoO point standings in his Primerica Financial, Garrett-powered Maxim. A NEW (OLD) RACETRACK AT THE CLAY COUNTY
FAIR SPEEDWAY Returning to the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa
for the first time in over ten years, the WoO was greeted with a brand-new
speedway, one that Meyers had never seen before. The brand-new, high-banked 3/8 mile track
definitely looked racy to the teams, and Meyers agreed, going out and
qualifying second. Knowing that he would
be trying some new things that evening, Meyers ran fourth in his heat race and
ninth in the Crane Cams Dash, which would line him up in the ninth position in
the A-Main event, where he would finish fourteenth. "The car just didn't work the way we wanted it to
tonight," said a disappointed Meyers.
"DJ (Lindsey, Crew Chief) and Brian (Bloomfield)
have worked hard, and with us trying some new things tonight, it just didn't go
in the direction we wanted it to – on to Topeka." JUST A BIT SHY OF SETTING A RECORD AT HEARTLAND PARK After having not raced at Heartland Park Topeka
since 2001, Meyers didn't know what to expect when he and the team arrived at
the high-banked 3/8 mile facility. Setting quick time, just a tick off of a new
track record, Meyers would earn five bonus points for the fastest AMB i.t.
timed lap. Racing his way to third place
in the heat race and sixth in the Crane Cams Dash, Meyers and his Elite Racing
Team knew they would have to be on top of their game in the pits in order to
have a good night on the track. Starting sixth in the A-Main event, Meyers would
run fourth, giving him a total of 146 points for the evening, leapfrogging him
into fourth place in the point standings. "We were off a bit on Wednesday night, and I
think that we are on our way to figuring this all out," said Meyers, who was
racing with an injured hand after a minor accident on Thursday. "We had a great run, a great points night, we
just needed to figure out how to get around the cars on the restarts." RETURNING TO CHARTER FOR A RAINOUT MAKEUP Again earning bonus points for his qualifying
effort, Meyers qualified fourth out of the thirty-one machines that signed into
the pits Sunday evening. Meyers was on a roll as he would win his heat and win
the Crane Cams Dash, lining him up in the pole position for the A-Main
event. His Crane Cams Dash win would be
his eighth on the season, second only to series points leader Donny Schatz, who
has nine dash victories. Pacing the field for the start of the event,
Meyers would only hold the first position for less than a lap when good friend Daryn Pittman would go around him. Meyers wouldn't give up and waged a furious
battle with Schatz for the second position, eventually losing it to him on lap
thirty. "We had an open red and I think that hurt us
tonight," said Meyers. "I struggled in
traffic tonight, although I do have to say the track was in much better shape
this time than last time – we had room to race and it made for a good night." The effort that the Elite Racing Team put out
Sunday night moved them within twenty-six points of third place, Danny Lasoski. UP NEXT
