Shake Up Jacob – Learning the Groove
NEWTON (May 17, 2010) – This weekend proved to be a learning experience as the Rapid City, South Dakota driver, "Shake Up" Jacob Ossenfort, made his way around the upper Midwest for a triple header weekend. The "Mount Rushmore" driver made his way to Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Friday evening where he put his Knology #99J Maxim chassis to the test. "It was weird. The track was different than I expected. When I got to the corner I was turning twice," he said of his hot laps. Jacob started seventh in his heat. "After our run in hot laps, we figured out what we thought we'd need for the rest of the night. The car felt great and we had a good run up to fifth. I think if we would have had a couple more laps, we could have made a couple more passes." With a redraw present for the evening, Jacob took his chances on the poker chip, drawing an eleven. "It wasn't what anyone hopes to draw, but at least we were running the feature." Jacob passed his way to fifth but a mid-race caution caused the loss of what traction he had left, finishing the night with an eleventh place finish overall. Saturday night continued Ossenfort's education as he and the team made their way to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. "As you know, qualifying is really important and after our run last night we were still looking for the right set up. We didn't end up qualifying where we had hoped." After notching qualifying into his belt Jacob saddled up for his heat race, where he would start seventh and finish with a strong sixth, missing the transfer spot by one and placing him in the B-Main line up. "The feature was good. We passed cars but I was a little low in (turns) one and two. We finished the evening in sixth, missing the transfer spot by one position again. It was disappointing, really disappointing, but I have something to look forward to when we return." Huset's Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota, would be the last stop for the weekend, where Jacob and the Ossenfort Racing team would all agree that it was a great night. "In hot laps we went out with a softer bar on the left front, which we've never done before. It felt really good. I was totally surprised," he said of his car. The track dried up early leaving qualifying to a groove guessing game. As the track dried out, the heat races made their rounds. The Don Ott powered Knology #99J Maxim chassis would start front row outside for the heat and duel for a few laps to keep that second place position. "I kept looking for the cushion but there was nothing to grab on to. Eventually I tried a lower line and we went forward, but with the set up not as comfortable as it was in hot laps, we just needed a couple more laps," Ossenfort said of the sixth place finish. Jacob would start fourth row inside for the Huset's Speedway main event, finishing his weekend with a diligent ninth place. "We tightened up the car and I'm glad we did, but I think it could've been tighter. I tried to stay in the groove in the beginning but I was getting passed, so I moved down a little. We were on rail but a mid-race caution killed us." Catch "Shake Up" Jacob in action on Friday evening at Black Hills Speedway in Rapids City, South Dakota.
