2008 IRA champ Bill Balog took his familiar 17B to the Dodge
County Fairgrounds this past Friday for the 8thAnnual Sue Thiel Memorial. After having a
less than stellar month of June, which saw the team destroy two race cars, they
were happy to start a new month on a track where they have tasted victory in
the past.
The night would
start off rather well as Bill turned a lap time of 16.992 seconds around the
big half mile, which was good enough for 2nd quick out of 31cars.
The B2 motorsports 17B started 6th in heat race #2 and would end up
finishing a solid 4th, which was enough to lock him into the night’s
25 lap feature.
A 5 pill was pulled
for the feature inversion, which meant that Bill would have to start from the 9th
position. At the drop of the green, Bill got a great start on the field and was
solidly in the top 5, only to have the first start waved off as a fellow
competitor got upside down before a lap was complete. On the ensuing start,
Bill would start his drive towards the front. After a few yellow flags &
having to deal with lapped cars, he would end up bringing the 17B home with a
solid 6th place finish on the night. The team continues to hold a 64
point lead in their quest for a 2nd IRA championship.
The B2 Motorsports
17B will be back in action this coming Friday at the Wilmot Raceway with the
IRA, before tentatively heading to Charter Raceway Park on Saturday & Cedar
Lake Speedway on Sunday. Both the Saturday & Sunday shows are World of
Outlaws Sprint shows.
