Geving garners top five finish in PetalumaSpeedway All Pro opener despite impaired vision By Bill Sullivan PETALUMA, CA (3-23-09) – Defending Petaluma Speedway All Pro sprint car champion Alissa Geving, 17, of Penngrove returned to the driver’s seat of her family owned Pit Stop “We had a fast car tonight, I was feeling pretty good about everything,” said Geving. “I had an issue with my tear off’s not working correctly after we started the A-main and with few cautions it was just something I had to deal with. It was very hard to see late in the race.” Geving started her season opener off with the fourth fastest lap in qualifying with a 12:96 second lap on the 3/8 mile dirt oval that was rough and heavy in the early stages of the night. In her heat race, she started in the third position. The opening green flag saw a traffic jam break out in front of the third generation driver which forced positions second through fifth to check up momentarily. In very little time at all, Geving rallied back to chase down Jeremy Burt for the third position on the fourth lap and overtake second place runner Nick Ringo Jr. one lap later where she would finish respectively. In the 20-lap feature event, Geving started in the seventh position and advanced into the top five early in the race. The malfunction of her tear offs on her visor hampered her vision for the remainder of the race which had just one yellow flag during the third lap. At the checkered flag Geving claimed a solid 5th place run to begin another title run at the speedway where both her father and grandfather won multiple titles. “I did my best out there tonight, the last thing I wanted to do was pull off the track,” said Geving. “It was frustrating but I’m happy with the fifth place finish in the end.” Next Saturday, Petaluma Speedway’s All Pro sprint car series will take a one week hiatus. Geving and her Chicko Motorsports Team are bound for nearby Antioch Speedway to compete in the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The series features California’s best 410 cubic inch powered sprint car teams. “I would love to run the entire Golden State Series,” added Geving. “But with the economy in the state it is acquiring that kind of sponsorship just wasn’t possible this year. We will race as many of them as we can as time allows. I love racing my 410.” Alissa Geving’s title sponsors include Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Tillett Tool and Auto Repairs Unlimited. Additional sponsors include Flowmaster Mufflers, Allstar Performance, A1A Performance Muffler, Rossi Auto Body, Afex Graphics, Simpson Racing Product, 21st Century Health Club, Butler Specialtys, Vanlare Steering Repair, DirtHead.com, Molecule Labs, Jeremy’s Chair Repair, ALC Machine, JW Web Design.
