Concord, NC— June 9, 2008— Donny Schatz used two wins and a second-place finish over the weekend to extend his lead in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings to 37 markers over Jason Meyers. Schatz, the two-time defending series champion is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 17 events this season. He is also tied for the series lead with Meyers with five A-Feature wins.
After suffering a flat tire at Eldora Speedway on May 31, Meyers and his team rebounded this weekend with three Top-Five finishes. He was third on Friday night at Knoxville Raceway and fourth on Saturday at the famed half-mile, and wrapped up the weekend by charging from the 18th starting spot at Tri-City Speedway on Sunday night to finish second, earning the KSE Race Products Hard Charger Award in the process.
Craig Dollansky used a fourth-place finish on Sunday night, in addition to a fifth and 10-place performance at Knoxville to extend his Top-10 streak to 10 races. It also moved him into the third spot in points. The native of Elk River, Minnesota has 16 Top-10 finishes in 17 races this season.
Joey Saldana suffered a flat right rear tire while running third on Sunday night, after earning a runner-up finish on Saturday night at Knoxville. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana has 14 Top-10 finishes this season.
Steve Kinser used a third-place run at Tri-City Speedway to move into the fifth spot in points. The 20-time series champion has nine Top-10 finishes this season, with five of those being Top-Fives.
Jac Haudenschild finished fifth and ninth at Knoxville Raceway, before having trouble at Tri-City Speedway. The veteran driver has 10 Top-10 finishes in 17 starts this season, as he closes in on his first A-Feature win of the year. He is just 21 points out of the Top-Five.
Kerry Madsen finished eighth at Tri-City to earn his 11th Top-10 finish of the season. He is seventh in points, less than 40 markers out of the Top-Five.
Chad Kemenah finished seventh at Knoxville on Saturday night, to earn his seventh Top-10 of the season. On Sunday night, he was running fourth and had no where to go, getting collected in an accident involving Haudenschild.
Terry McCarl finished third on Saturday night at his home track of Knoxville Raceway and currently is ninth in points, on the strength of eight Top-10 finishes.
Shane Stewart picked up his first win of 2008 on Friday night at Knoxville in a thrilling duo with Donny Schatz. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma has five Top-Five finishes in the last six races.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on Wednesday, June 11 at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway in Missouri for an event which will benefit the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation..
