Schatz Takes Lead in World of Outlaws Championship Standings
Concord, NC- June 1, 2008-After picking up his second consecutive A-Feature win of the weekend and third overall this season, two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz took the lead in the championship standings over Jason Meyers by 23 markers. Schatz is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 14 events this season as he chases his third straight title.
Meyers led the majority of the 30-lap contest on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway and suffered a shredded right rear tire while running second with just three laps remaining, which ended his night with three laps to go. The native of Clovis, California leads the series with five A-Feature wins and 11 Top-Five finishes, after a fifth-place finish at Attica Raceway Park on Friday.
Craig Dollansky picked up two more Top-10 finishes over the weekend and remains third in points. He has 13 Top-10 finishes in 14 starts, with eight of those being Top-Five performances.
Joey Saldana closed to within two points of Dollansky in third after a runner-up finish on Saturday night at Eldora. He also finished second at Attica and has eight Top-Five finishes this season as he closes in on his first A-Feature win.
Jac Haudenschild used a fourth and a sixth-place finish over the weekend to move into the Top-Five in points. He has seven Top-10 finishes this season, as he too closes in on his first win of the 2008 campaign.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion is just two points behind Haudenschild in the standings, on the strength of two A-Feature wins and eight Top-10 finishes.
Kerry Madsen picked up two more Top-10 finishes over the weekend and is seventh in points, just 14 markers out of the Top-Five.
Chad Kemenah used a fourth-place run at Attica and a Top-10 at Eldora to move into eighth in points. After starting 23rd on Saturday night, he passed 13 cars to earn the KSE Race Products Hard Charger Award. The native of Findlay, Ohio has seven Top-10 finishes this season.
Terry McCarl finished sixth at Eldora on Saturday night and moved ninth in points. He has six Top-10 finishes in 2008, with three of those being in the Top-Five.
Shane Stewart used two third-place finishes over the weekend to move into the Top-10 in points. He was finished in the Top-Five in four of the last five World of Outlaws events, as he seeks his first win of the season.
Daryn Pittman finished fifth at Eldora to move into 11th in points, after missing the A-Feature on Friday night at Attica, after taking a trip to the hospital for precautionary reasons after a heat race accident. He is 36 points out of the Top-10.
Jason Sides moved up two spots in points to 12th after charging from the 25th starting spot at Eldora to finish 14th. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has two Top-10 finishes this season.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. used his fourth Top-10 finish of the season on Saturday night to vault himself into 13th in points.
