TWO OPEN WHEEL FEATURES AND THE EASTER BUNNY TO HIGHLIGHT ACTION THIS SATURDAY
Source: Dave Grayson
The Havasu 95 Speedway, located in beautiful Lake Havasu City-Arizona, will return to racing this Saturday night, March 22nd, with an action packed, ASA sanctioned, Easter weekend featuring their Modified, Street Stock and Factory Stock divisions along with special guest appearances by the USAC Ford Focus Midgets and the Easter Bunny. This very special weekend, at the most scenic quarter mile paved oval in the southwest, is being presented by race sponsors Progressive Dry Wall and Bridgewater Homes.
The ASA Modified feature will include a championship battle between three drivers who are only separated by 22 points. Jeff Gibson goes into Saturday night leading the standings with 204 points based on a very consistent season performance that includes two top five and three top ten finishes. But Gibson is only 10 points ahead of Chris Gerchman. The second generation driver of a well known racing family is no stranger to parking his #26 modified into a victory lane. He proved that last Thanksgiving weekend when a won a double points feature which has played a big part in his championship contention. Still very much involved in this championship picture is Chris Weiss who has two top five and top ten finishes so far this year. Weiss will go into Saturday night only 22 markers away from the points leader.
The always exciting ASA Street Stocks will also play a major role in the Havasu 95 Speedway Easter action as well. Fan favorite Rick Layman leads the standings with 286 points based on two wins, four top fives and five top ten finishes. Jim Carlo, with four top fives and six top tens, is second 22 points behind the leader. Third in the standings, and only 24 points out of first, is Chip Campbell who has a feature win along with four top fives and six top tens. The status of this particular points race is largely based on the fact that both Carlo and Campbell missed the December 30th race. However they both picked up some points on Layman back on March 8th and will be looking to do that again this Saturday night.
The fan favorite ASA Factory Stocks will be making their 14th appearance of the season at the Havasu 95 Speedway this Saturday night. Dave Buntmeyer leads the standings with a 34 point lead over Scott Allen. But, always remember, this is the fender rubbing, body slamming almost anything goes Factory Stocks and a 34 point lead could easily evaporate during the course of one evening. Mike Harris is third in the standings 46 points away from the leader. But the one that bears watching in this division may turn out to be Stephanie Felish. She's currently fourth in the standings and 60 points back but that's largely due to a missed race back on December 30th. Technically speaking she also missed the March 8th race but her dad, Gary, stepped in for her and won the feature. This rose among all those thorns has three feature wins this season and has absolutely proven that she can run with the boys.
Joining the fun Saturday night will be the USAC Ford Focus Series who will be officially kicking off their 2008 season at the Havasu 95 Speedway. The open wheel midget cars are powered by a Ford two liter ZETEC engines and they will literally be flying around the Havasu 95 Speedway's D shaped oval this Saturday night.
The Havasu 95 Speedway's Special Events staff will once again be pulling out the stops to entertain their fans between the races. This fun loving group will be presenting an Easter egg hunt for the kids complete with a special appearance by the Easter Bunny himself. They will be the first to tell you "we love the Easter Bunny."
The spectator gates will open at 4 pm this Saturday with the green flag falling on the racing at 6 pm. Ticket prices are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors 55 plus as well as the handicapped and the military. Kids prices are $6 for ages six to 16 while kids five and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. For more detailed information dial up their website at www.havasu95speedway.com.
