Jason Meyers Wins Mini Gold Cup Concord, NC- March 9, 2008--By: Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director

Jason Meyers continued his strong start to the 2008 season on Saturday night, by winning the 22nd Annual Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in his home state of California.

Meyers, who has won twice with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series this season, lined up on the outside of the front row for the 40-lap event on Saturday night. He chased Paul McMahan, who won the preliminary feature on Friday night for the first 28 laps of the contest.

Meyers took the lead on the 29th circuit, with McMahan quickly fighting back. Tim Kaeding, who was running third also made a bid for the top spot, though Meyers aboard the GLR Investments KPC held off their charges to pick up the $6,000 top prize.

For the native of Clovis, California, it was his second win in the Mini Gold Cup and his fourth career victory at Silver Dollar Speedway. Ironically, his first career 410-sprint car win came in the event back in 1999.

Meyers, who is currently second in Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series points, just two markers out of the lead, finished eighth in the preliminary feature on Friday at the ΒΌ-mile. He began Saturday night by turning in the 12th quickest lap in time trials of the 64 cars that took to the track. He finished third in the fourth heat race to earn a spot in the dash, where he was the runner-up to earn the outside front row starting spot in the A-Feature.

Shane Stewart, the 2005 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, finished 12th aboard the Roth Motorsports JEI in the finale of the Mini Gold Cup. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma began the night with the sixth quickest lap in time trials. He was 10th on Friday night in the preliminary feature.

Also in action at the Mini Gold Cup was Joey Saldana, who is currently fourth in the World of Outlaws championship standings. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana, who won the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway last season, was 15th on Friday night in the opener and 17th in the finale, after a win in the second heat race.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will compete at Silver Dollar Speedway in the 55th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions from September 4-6, with the winner receiving $50,000.

Headquartered in Roanoke, Va., Advance Auto Parts is the second-largest retailer of automotive aftermarket parts, accessories, batteries, and maintenance items in the United States, based on store count and sales. As of October 6, 2007, the company operated 3,228 stores in 40 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The company serves both the do-it-yourself and professional installer markets.
