T.J. Buffenbarger, TULSA, Okla. (February 6, 2008) – The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints On Dirt presented by Victor Reinz is proud to announce the 2008 series schedule. The 29th season of Michigan's premier and most exciting racing series will feature 23 points races contested at 14 different tracks.
The 2008 season will kick off on Saturday, May 3 at Ron Flinn's Crystal Motor Speedway, for the first of three events at the three-eighths mile oval. Crystal will continue its perfect record of being the only track to host an ASCS Sprints On Dirt event in all 29 seasons.
I-96 Speedway will host four ASCS Sprints On Dirt events, including a reviving of the Full Throttle Nationals on June 28. The popular event will also serve as the final leg of the SOD/NRA North-South Shootout.
Thunderbird Race Park kicks off the newly formed Short Track Challenge (STC) with their event on May 10. The STC also includes stops at Cherry Speedway, Merritt Speedway, Owendale Speedway and Winston Speedway.
ASCS SOD will once again travel across the border to Canada in 2008. The first event will be at South Buxton Raceway on May 17, followed by the first annual ASCS Northern Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on July 4 and 5. The Ohsweken event will be co-sanctioned with the ASCS Patriot Region, with the final night's winner taking home $3,000.
Joining the Ohio based NRA series, ASCS Sprints On Dirt will stop at Limaland Motorsports Park on June 13 for the first race of the North-South Shootout. The Shootout will continue the following evening, June 14, as ASCS SOD will make its first ever appearance at the famed Eldora Speedway. The Shootout then moves into Michigan the following weekend to the re-vitalized Butler Motor Speedway, with the aforementioned finale being at I-96.
After nearly a twenty-five year absence, sprint cars will roar once again as ASCS Sprints On Dirt makes a visit to the Ionia Fairgrounds on July 18. ASCS SOD will be racing on a newly reconfigured track, and the race will be part of the 2008 Ionia Free Fair.
The final points weekend will feature a pair of one-half mile tracks. First up will be Hartford Motor Speedway hosting the King of Michigan on Friday, September 5. The next night wraps up ASCS Sprints On Dirt's 29th year with the Season Championship at I-96 Speedway on Saturday, September 6.
The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints On Dirt presented by Victor Reinz would like to thank all participating tracks, teams, sponsors and fans for your support in the coming season.
