The 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series opener, the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals is just seven days away at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida, on February 8.
In celebration of the series 30th anniversary season this year, for each of the 10 days leading up to the event, each one of the Top-10 all-time A-Feature winners with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will be highlighted. These 10 drivers have combined for 1,449 A-Feature wins with the series dating back to 1978. Of the 10 drivers, four will be competing full-time with the series in 2008, beginning with the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
Next up on the list will be two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz, with 70 career A-Feature wins, who is tied for sixth with Dave Blaney on the all-time list.
Schatz won his first Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Feature event at Riverside Speedway (now Cottage Grove Speedway) in Oregon in 1998.
Among his wins with the series include: the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway- four times, the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway-twice, the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove-twice, the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway and the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in California.
He has won A-Feature events with the series at 43 tracks in 26 states and one Canadian province. The North Dakota native won a career high 19 A-Feature events in 2007 en route to his second consecutive Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title. Of the tracks on the 2008 series schedule, Schatz has won at 24 of them.
In his career at the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, Schatz has two A-Feature wins and seven Top-Three finishes, including a victory to open the 2007 season.
