Kerry Madsen, the reigning Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, finished third on Friday night in the preliminary feature of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway in Australia.
The native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia, who won twice with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 2007, lined up seventh for the event. He worked his way around Jason Johnson and Garry Brazier to move into the Top-Five, before passing Adrian Maher and Steven Lines in an event that was won by Australian legend Max Dumesny.
In preliminary action, Madsen finished second in the fourth heat race, and was fourth in the seventh heat race, while in time trials, he turned in the 14
th quickest lap of the 51 cars that took to the track.
Madsen has won the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic for the last three years, and on Saturday night, $30,000 awaits the winner of the 36
th annual edition of the famed race.
Other former winners of the event include: Jac Haudenschild, who won twice in 2007 with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car, 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski, Joey Saldana, who picked up 13 total wins with the World of Outlaws last year and two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz.
