Concord, NC—November 10, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director

After picking up the World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award earlier this week at the series annual Night of Champions, Kerry Madsen was back in his action in his native land of Australia this weekend, competing in the first two rounds of the World Series Sprintcars season. Also in action was two-time reigning World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz. Both endured a 17-plus hour flight to make it down under for the events.

The pair battled for the win on Saturday night at Perth Motorplex in Kwinana Beach, WA, Australia, with Madsen coming out on top to claim the victory.

Madsen, a native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia, started second in the 30-lap contest, while Schatz lined up sixth. Both were battling for the lead just two laps into the race. Madsen led early, with Schatz then taking the top spot as the pair worked lapped traffic. Toward the middle of the race, Madsen charged past Schatz in heavy traffic to take the lead and ultimately the win.

In preliminary action, Madsen won both heat races that he competed in, as well as the first dash to earn the outside front row starting position the A-Feature. Schatz, who was third quickest of the 38 cars that took to the track in time trails, finished third in one heat race and 12th in the other. He was also third in the second dash to earn an outside third row starting spot in the A-Feature.

Madsen, who won twice with the World of Outlaws in 2007, failed to make the feature on Friday night in the opening round for the World Series Sprintcars, while Schatz was caught up in an accident while running fourth.

Other drivers competing on Saturday night that have won with the World of Outlaws in past included: Brooke Tatnell who was victorious on Friday night and is the current championship point leader with the World Series Sprintcars finishing third, Jason Johnson who won a World of Outlaws preliminary feature at Williams Grove Speedway in 2005 set fast time and finished fourth in the main event and Mark Dobmeier who won at Wilmot Speedway in 2006 with the World of Outlaws, was  seventh on Saturday night at Perth Motorplex.

The next scheduled event for the World Series Sprintcars is on Wednesday, November 14 at Kalgoorlie Raceway.

The 2008 World of Outlaws season begins on February 8 with the 37th Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
