Jason Meyers Teams Up with Jeff McCall to Win ASCS Short Track Nationals
The Countdown Clock to the World Finals at Lowe's Motor Speedway is Ready to Explode!
CLOVIS, Calif. (October 28, 2007) – Jason Meyers and Elite Racing teamed up with veteran American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) owner Jeff
McCall, who supplied a Charlie Garrett 360 power plant to pick up his
first-ever ASCS Short Track Nationals victory at I-30 Speedway in
Little Rock, Ark., en route to the World of Outlaws (WoO) World Finals
at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
MEYERS DRAWS FRIDAY FOR STN QUALIFIER NIGHT
With
a completely different format than Meyers has seen with the over eighty
races that he has ran in 2007 with the WoO, the STN is run without
giving the teams a pair of single-car qualifying laps.Rather,
they run a heat race and based upon the amount of passing points
earned, are slotted into a second set of heat races, or qualifiers, and
then are placed into the feature events for that night. All races earn points to slot drivers into the Saturday night races.
Struggling
a bit in the heat, Meyers would finish fourth, already contemplating
changes that needed to be made to the car on his way into the pits.Conferring
with crew chief D.J. Lindsey, the Elite Racing Team worked hard to put
Meyers in victory lane after his qualifier race.
Lining
up seventh in the twenty-five lap preliminary A-Main event, Meyers was
confident in the way that his car and the track both progressively
improved throughout the evening.With third
place being the magic number, Meyers knew that he would have to finish
third or better to be locked in to Saturday's 40-lap A-Main event and
to also have a chance to run the Dash, which determined the top six
starting positions.Working his way forward, Meyers would snag that coveted third place position, locking him into Saturday's Dash event.
"Our
car was off a bit in the first heat, but the guys got it where we
needed it to be," commented Meyers after his performance on Friday
night."The track was great – real racy and a whole lot of fun to drive on."
TIME TO BATTLE – MAIN EVENT DAY AT STN
Since
Meyers was locked into the Dash event, he would have to wait through
several races before he lined up on the front stretch with his five
competitors to draw for their starting positions.Being
the last person to draw, he was relegated to the last pill, which
placed him on the outside of the second row of the event..
A fourth place starting position served Meyers well, as by turn two of the first lap, he had taken the lead.Setting
sail, Meyers would win the Dash, giving him a chance at the Comp Cams
Challenge, a $25,000 bonus to start at the tail of the field and win,
adding to the $20,000 winner's share of the purse. After much deliberating, Meyers turned the Challenge down, as did the outside pole sitter, good friend, Shane Stewart.
Slipping into second place on the start behind Stewart, that's where Meyers would stay for the majority of the event. With
a fantastic mid-race battle with fellow WoO competitor Tim Shaffer,
Meyers saw Stewart open up almost a straightaway lead in front of him. While
Stewart was battling lapped traffic, Meyers made up ground and would
take the lead coming off of turn four to take the white flag. Not
giving up, Stewart waged a battle with Meyers, taking the lead back,
but Meyers would get him for the final time going into turn three on
the last lap of the event.
"We had so much fun here last year that we made the decision to come back this year, helped out by Jeff McCall teaming up with us and supplying us with the 360 version ofthe Charlie Garrett motors that we have been running all season on the Outlaw tour," said an elated Meyers after the event."Our
car continually got better through the course of the two nights of
racing, not to mention that Shane and Tim are both guys that I know I
can race with and they will race me cleanly, which makes the races that
much more fun!"

"It seems like we were just starting the season off in Florida, and now it's almost over," said Meyers."We
have gone through so much this year, from getting our Tahoe stolen in
Canada to the birth of my daughter, it has been a great year for us and
we are looking forward to redeeming ourselves at Lowe's (after flipping
during the May WoO event) now that we have some great momentum built
up."
