Sherman Leads ASCS Canyon Region to USA Race Park
Press Release Submitted by BigDog on 10/16/2007 at 8:18 AM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (October 16, 2007) –

With a successful inaugural edition of the Parker Store ASCS Western
World Non-Wing Championship in the books, action for the American Sprint Car Series
Canyon Region resumes with Saturday night's stop at USA Race Park in Tucson, AZ.
It marks the series third and final stop of the season atop the semi-banked,
3/8-mile USA Race Park clay oval, with current series points leader Jeremy
Sherman of Surprise, AZ, victorious in both previous events on May 5 and June 9.
With just the season championship event at Casa Grande's Central Arizona
Raceway remaining after Saturday night's card, Sherman just needs to start one
of the two remaining features to secure the inaugural ASCS Canyon Region
championship.
Sherman's 2007 season has been stellar to say the least, starting 17 of 18
feature events and reaching victory lane aboard Fred Bryan's F&E Development
No. 77 Maxim on eleven occasions with 16 top-five finishes.
With his success, Sherman has amassed a 141-point lead over Charles Davis,
Jr., of Buckeye, AZ. Absent from one event early in the year, Davis has
notched five feature wins and finished among the top five in 15 of 17 starts.
Mike Leslie of Litchfield Park, AZ, currently holds down the third position,
just 14 points ahead of Glendale, AZ, racer Bob Ream, Jr. Josh Pelkey of
Peoria, AZ, rounds out the current top five.
The balance of the current top ten in points includes Seainn Hendricsen
(Mesa, AZ), Shon Deskins (Waddell, AZ), Bernie Smith (Glendale, AZ), Andrew
Reinbold (Chandler, AZ) and Mike Martin (Yuma, AZ).
The battle for sixth through eighth in points is a tight one, with just 18
markers separating Hendricsen, Deskins and Smith.
Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race
winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat
race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco
sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while
Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon
Region action this year.
Saturday's action at USA Race Park goes green at 6:30 p.m.
United Sports Arizona Race Park is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268,
then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For
more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.
The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to
Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 23 scheduled events. While a majority of the
events are at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, the series also takes in several
events each at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona
Raceway over the course of the season.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the
American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately
240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least
30 different states and Canada.
