Skaggs Slides by Layfield for Win at Ohio Valley Speedway, August 24
Press Release Submitted by on 08/25/2013 at 7:33 PM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

Lubeck , WV-

After multiple heartbreaking incidents throughout the 2013 season, Nathan Skaggs was
finally able to seal the deal with a last lap pass over Andre Layfield and
claim victory at Ohio Valley Speedway. The house was packed and fans were left
with nothing short of yet another awesome OVSCA fast, passing-packed event!

Young gun, Nick Ley got called for the jump over Josh Davis
in heat one, sponsored by Alky Racing Alcohols, which penalized him two rows
and awarded Danny Smith the new pole position. Smith wrapped up with win, but
Davis was close in tow. Mark Imler battled Kory Crabtree for third until
Crabtree faced mechanical issues and brought out the caution on lap seven. Nick
Ley took a hard end-over ride after hitting the infield tire in turn four. Ley
walked to the pits alongside his dad giving a wave reassuring fans he was
uninjured. The final two laps concluded with Smith followed by Davis, Imler and
Eddie Miller driving the Mitchell team car.

Heat two sponsored by Racegear by Impact, lined up with
Chris Myers inside Dave Dickson. Myers jumped quick to the lead and Andre
Layfield trailed in the number 84 car, normally ran by Jim Stinson. Dickson
followed in third while Benson held off an aggressive Wayne McPeek and OVSCA
newcomer Nick Patterson for fourth. The heat went green to checkered and the
top two distanced themselves from the group running a high line and battling
for the win. Myers came out on top but Layfield didn't make it easy.

The final heat sponsored by Octane Racing Products rolled to
the start line, with a perfect side-by-side acceleration. Nathan Skaggs and
Greg Mitchell took the Green and Skaggs quickly claimed the high line, and
lead. Jamie Myers moved into second after starting behind Skaggs in the third
position. Mitchell battled and held on to third over Chuck Waddell while
Kendall Hodge finished fifth in the number 2MC, McPeek team car.

Ohio Valley Speedway's top two redraw format was adopted by
OVSCA for the event, and staggered the top six finishers for the feature event.
Brothers Chris Myers and Jamie Myers drew the front line for a family battle
for the front, while the second row lined up with Danny Smith and Nathan
Skaggs. The third row was made up by Andre Layfield and Josh Davis. After just
getting his machine back together as a result of a wild ride two weeks ago at
Wayne County, Jamie Myers returned with a vengeance. After leading the first five
laps, Jamie was granted second when Andre Layfield moved in for the lead.
Layfield and Myers worked smoothly through lap traffic until a heart breaking
spin in turn four sent Myers straight into the same troublesome turn four tire
several others met earlier in the night. Due to front end damage, he would be
finished for the night. Layfield continued with Nathan Skaggs now in second,
followed by Danny Smith, Josh Davis and Chris Myers. As the green flag dropped
the top five remained and distanced themselves from one another. Just a few
laps later, Smith claimed third from Davis. Wayne McPeek worked his way into
seventh behind Mark Imler after starting 14th. Dave Dickson, Greg
Mitchell, and Brian Benson rounded out the top ten at the halfway mark.

Layfield continued his lead but Skaggs quickly closed in. As
the white flag dropped, Skaggs used lap car traffic to his advantage and put on
a show for the lead. Holding Layfield off for the final and most important lap
of the night, Skaggs was rewarded with the checkers and recorded his first 2013
OVSCA win. The team Beasley car has been bad fast on multiple occasions this
season, and Skaggs has wheeled it with aggression. However, the black cloud has
got them time and time again. An excited Skaggs was happy to see his luck
change and thanked the fans as well as car owner Harold Beasley for making it
happen. With Jim Stinson absent from the event, the victory was also enough to
give Skaggs an edge and return to the lead in a tight series point battle.

Davis and Dickson were also able to make up ground in the
points run as Wes McGlumphy missed his first OVSCA event of the season, and
Kory Crabtree was unable to start the show due to mechanical failures carrying
over from his heat race.

Ohio Valley Speedway anticipated fog being an issue late in
the night and moved the sprint feature up significantly in the program. OVSCA,
Ohio Valley Speedway and especially the fans that make the whole thing worthwhile,
really appreciate the drivers who stuck around and participated in the night's
autograph session following their feature event. It is reassuring to see
drivers return the appreciation to an always faithful and packed crowd at Ohio
Valley Speedway.

The Ohio Valley Sprint Cars will be part of the awesome back
to back event at West Virginia Motor Speedway this week and look forward to a
first time visit and huge show at the "Speedplant." Look for upcoming race
event details at www.ovsprintcars.com and on the OVSCA Facebook Page.
