IRA SPRINTS HEAD TO WILMOT RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY EVENING
Press Release Submitted by StanM on 06/05/2012 at 5:31 PM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

June 5, 2012; McHenry, IL -  After presenting their most hectic weekend of the 2012 racing season where the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints put on three shows in a 48 hour period this past weekend, the series now heads to Wilmot Raceway for a leisurely one event weekend this Saturday Night June 9th.

That's not to say the competition won't be fierce!

The trip to Wilmot Raceway's third-mile clay oval will mark the third appearance for the series at the track. The show will be the ninth on the season schedule which has 30 dates.

So far this season five different drivers have captured A-mains, with victories going to Tommy Sexton, Mike Kertscher, Travis Whitney, Mike Reinke and Bill Balog.

Balog, the four-time and defending Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint champion has won four A-mains including the most recent event held this past Sunday evening at Eagle Valley Speedway.  For Balog the season has truly been one of feast or famine.  He has collected four victories and has only been beaten to the checkered flag once while his car has been running at the finish.  Balog however has also suffered three DNF's and is currently chasing Reinke in the 2012 point chase.

Reinke's season has been one of consistency.  The former two-time champion has finished no worse than 9th in an A-main event and has completed every feature lap this season.   He also chalked up a victory this past weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway adding his name to the 2012 win column.  This effort has allowed Reinke to amass 1092 point to Balog's 1071.

Both drivers will be fighting for the victory this Saturday Night at Wilmot.

You can also expect several other drivers to play a factor of feature time this coming Saturday evening.  Mike Kertscher is expected to return after skipping this past triple-header weekend.  In his last appearance Kertscher collected the victory at 141 Speedway.  In his five IRA appearances this season Kertscher has a victory and three runner-up finishes and he also established a new track qualifying mark at the 141 Speedway.  Kertscher should be tough at Wilmot Raceway this Saturday.  Kertscher also ran Wilmot Raceway's season opening event and is the Wilmot Raceway 410 Sprint point leader.

Wilmot Raceway's 2011 champion Tommy Sexton proved the home track advantage works having taken the win in the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Series last appearance at the track and is expected to be in the chase for his second win this coming Saturday.

Other notable competitors expected to appear include Scott Neitzel currently third in the 2012 series standings.  Neitzel's best run so far this year has been a runner-up finish at the 141 Speedway event. Neitzel's last victory happened to come at Wilmot Raceway in August of 2011 when he charged from 13th on the grid to take the win in an impressive run through the field to reach victory lane.

Other IRA Sprint regulars expected to be on hand include Phillip Mock who currently sits fourth in the season standings and Russel Borland who sits fifth.  Top ten point competitors including rookie Robbie Pribnow, Kris Spitz, Brandon Thone and Scott Uttech are expected to appear.

Scott Uttech also currently sits second in the Wilmot Raceway point chase and at the most recent Wilmot event he set the pace for much of the first half of the contest.  He would eventually finish third for his best IRA performance of the season.  His cousin Dave Uttech, who suffered a flip at the last Wilmot race, recently returned to action and should also appear at the Wilmot Raceway event this Saturday.

Joining the Sprint cars for the show will be Auto Parts & Machine Service / Hoosier Tire Modifieds, Fec's Place / Outlaw Race Parts Mini Sprints, R.A. Adams Enterprises / Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and a Massive Speed Pro 4's / Hawg Heaven Bandit 4's - 4 cylinder feature invitational.   Additional information on the event can be found at the Wilmot Raceway website located at www.wilmotraceway.com

Adult admission tickets are just $20.  Adults with a military ID will receive a $5 discount.  Students ages 8 through 11 are admitted for just $5 and children 7 and under will be admitted free.

Pits will open at 3:00pm, with grandstands opening at 5:00pm and racing is set to start at 6:45pm.
