Grosz to Cash in on ASCS Northern Plains Title Saturday at Casino
Press Release Submitted by BigDog on 09/04/2007 at 7:13 PM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 4, 2007) – What a spectacular week it could be for Lee Grosz.

On Sunday night, the 19-year-old from Harwood, ND, picked up his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by topping the final night of North Central Speedway's Mighty Axe Nationals.

With a few days to relish the victory, things will get even better for Grosz as he can put the clamps on the ASCS Northern Plains Region championship in this Saturday night's season finale at Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD.

With the lion's share of the work already completed through the first 13 point races of the season, the task for Grosz on Saturday night is a relatively simple one.  All the young racer must do is pull through the pit gates and be ready to race.

Those 75 show-up points will be enough to put Grosz out of the reach of any of his rivals, as the driver of Doug Howells' Wesmar-powered Bergstrom Electric/Hi-10 Sports Center No. 4J J&J has amassed a points lead of 112 markers.

Finishing among the top ten in ten of 13 ASCS Northern Plains Region feature events this year, Grosz will try to capture his first series title in style by reeling off a second consecutive victory.

Entering the night ranked second in points is Dave Glennon of Casselton, ND.  Glennon is 80 points ahead of third-ranked Eric Lutz, who hails from Sioux Falls, SD.

Chris Graf enters the season finale ranked fifth, with others among the top ten including Curt Lund, Scott Winters, Jody Rosenboom, Clint Garner and Chad Meyer.

The high-banked, 3/8-mile Casino Speedway clay oval is located in Watertown, SD, four miles northwest of US 212 on SR 20, then 0.7 mile south on Stokes-Thomas Lake Road.  For more information, contact the track at 605-882-2855 or 605-882-1221.

Including three non-point events run in conjunction with the O'Reilly ASCoT National series, Saturday's card marks the 17th night of racing action for the ASCS Northern Plains Region in 2007 at ten different tracks throughout Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.  One additional night of racing was rained out.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.

Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com.
