7/7/10 – The recent 4th of July weekend seen Bill
Balog & his B Squared Motorsports 17B machine in action at the Dodge County
Fairgrounds on Friday, July 2nd & the Wilmot Raceway on
Saturday, July 3rd.
On Friday, Bill started the night off by turning the 3rd
fastest time in the nights qualifying session with a lap time of 17.287. He
would line up outside row 3 in the 3rd heat. He wasted little time
once the green flag flew, and coming to the checkered flag he just about stole
the win, but had to settle for the runner up spot. The 25 lap feature was up
next & Bill was set to take the green flag from position #6. After having
nearly won the earlier heat race, the team had thought they found the key set
up for the feature, but as luck would have it, the track changed more than they
thought. Once the green flew, Bill struggled to keep his 6th place
finish. He had even dropped to about 8th place before making some
late race moves to gain a few spots. By the end of the 25 laps, Bill brought
the 17B home with another top 5 finish.
Up next on the
holiday weekend was trip #2 of 5 to the Wilmot Raceway. With track conditions
less than favorable, Bill managed to still turn the 5th quickest
time of the night despite being the 25th car on the track. He
started 5th in heat race #1 & before the ten laps were up, he
managed to gain a few spots to bring home a 3rd place finish. The 30
lap feature was next on tap, & the 17B machine would take the initial green
flag from 6th place. After the top 2 cars got involved in an
incident on lap 1, Bill restarted the race from outside row 1. On the ensuing
restart, Bill battled with the pole sitter for the 1st lap &
then he would quickly open up a sizable lead on the field. By the time the next
yellow flag flew on lap 15, Bill had opened up a half track lead on 2nd
place. With each restart, he would quickly open up a sizable lead & he
would easily go on to collect his 8th career IRA feature win &
first of the 2010 season.
This weekend the
Buesser Concrete / Astro Titanium sponsored 17B will be in action on Thursday,
July 8th at the LaSalle (IL) Speedway & Saturday, July 10th
at the Beaver Dam (WI) Raceway. Both nights will be with the World of Outlaw
Sprint Cars. The IRA series has the weekend off, & will return to action on
July 16th.
