5/12/10 – This past weekend was set to be the first double
header weekend of the year for Bill Balog & his B Squared Motorsports team,
but Mother Nature had a different idea as Friday’s show at the Clay County
Speedway was cancelled due to extreme cold & rain. So it was off to
Knoxville Raceway on Saturday for the Annual “IRA / Knoxville Challenge”.
Thirty Nine 410 sprint cars were on hand for the event, Bill ended up turning
the 14th fastest time of the night with a lap time of 15.175 seconds
which averages out to 118.616 mph.
He lined up in the 3rd
position of heat race #2 & needed a top 5 finish to transfer straight to
the feature. At the drop of the green, Bill didn’t get a great start &
found himself out of the top 5, he worked on the 5th place car for
much of the race & had a run on him going in to turn 3, when Bill got in to
the inside berm & caused the car to head towards the wall. Luckily he was
able to avoid it & was able to finish the race. At the checkered, he
crossed the line in 7th, which meant he needed to run the B-main.
For the B-main, he
once again lined up in the 3rd position & needed a top 4 to move
on to the feature. He quickly grabbed the lead at the start & would go on
to win the 12 lap affair, which lined him up in the 21st position
for the feature.
At the start of the
feature, a group of cars just about got together coming down the front stretch,
which resulted in Bill getting shuffled back even further. As the race went on,
he was able to move a few positions & brought home a 15th place
finish at the end of the 20 laps.
This weekend the IRA
has off so the team will take the time to regroup before heading to the Rice
Lake Speedway on May 22nd.
