Calvin Landis With A Podium Finish
Press Release Submitted by ethel on 10/28/2009 at 8:02 PM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

October 27, 2009 - Knoxville's Calvin Landis, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, drove the #34 Gary Williams, Ellis chassis, Borello powered sprint car in the ASCS Southwest Region race held at USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona, on October 24, 2009 against a 33 car field.

Never having driven the Williams car before, it took Calvin a couple circles in the hot lap session to bring the car up to speed.  "It just got faster every lap I took," said Calvin.

From the 2nd position in heat 1, Calvin finished 2nd to Johnny Herrera, Knoxville's 2009 track champion, with the new leader in points in the 2009 ASCS Southwest Region, Rick Ziehl, coming in 3rd.

Drawing the #8 pill, Calvin had an excellent start in the A main.  He moved the #34 forward to 2nd, dropped back to 4th, and fought his way back again to a strong 2nd place finish.  The action packed race was won by Herrera, with Ziehl again finishing in 3rd.

"I'd like to thank Gary Williams for giving me the opportunity to bring his car home with a podium finish.  I really enjoyed working with him and a great crew.  Thanks guys!!  It's a great feeling to jump in  a car I've never been in and finish well.  I look forward to racing with them again."

Look for Calvin to again be in the #34 Williams car for the Western World competition in Tucson on November 19, 20, and 21, 2009.
