With 2 of the 5 remaining IRA shows scheduled this past
weekend, Bill Balog and his B Squared Motorsports team was looking to increase
their 174 point lead over 2nd place in the season standings. The
first event of the weekend took place at Superior Speedway in Superior WI on
Friday 9/11/09. Bill turned a lap of 13.340 seconds, which was good enough for
6th quick out of the 26 cars present. He would take the green flag
in heat #3 from 5th place and quickly began working his way forward.
By the end of the 10 laps, Bill had raced his way to a 2nd place
finish behind Erin Crocker. The 3 pill was drawn for the feature inversion,
which was place the 17B in 10th place for the start. At the drop of
the green, Bill started his quest towards the front, as he was able to move his
dialed in #17B wherever he needed on the track and was easily in the top 5 by
the midway point of the race. Over the last half of the race, Bill worked the
car masterfully and raced his way in to 2nd place behind Terry
McCarl. He tried his hardest to get by the 24 of McCarl but came up short in
the end & would settle for a 2nd place finish.
Night #2 on the
weekend was the 9th Annual “Jerry Richert Memorial” at the Cedar Lake
Speedway in New Richmond WI on Saturday 9/12/09. With 34 cars on hand, Bill
turned a lap of 11.212 seconds in qualifying which was good enough for 11th
place.The 11th place run in
qualifying would place the 17B machine 4th for the start of heat
race #3. By the end of the 10 lap race, Bill had raced his way to a 2nd
place finish behind Robby Wolfgang, which was good enough to lock the B Squared
Motorsports entry in to the feature. Bill started the feature from 14th
place and quickly began his move towards the front. His charged towards the
front wouldn’t come easy as he had great battles along the way with the 24 of
McCarl, 59 of Crocker, and the 1a of Wolfgang, but in the end he would edge
McCarl for 4th and bring home his 2nd top 5 of the
weekend.
With 3 events
remaining on the schedule, Bill and the B Squared Motorsports team have a 263
point lead going in to this weekends events at the Oshkosh Speedzone on Friday
and the Dodge County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
