Bill
Balog and the B Squared Motorsports team were in action at 2 different WI
tracks this past Labor Day weekend.
First up was the
Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday for the “Stan Fox Memorial”. With 30
cars on hand, Bill turned the 3rd fastest time of the night with a
16.687 second lap. Bill would take the green flag from position #6 in heat race
#3. After falling to the 7th position at the start, Bill fought his
way back to a 6th place finish, which was enough to transfer to the
25 lap feature. With a 5 pill drawn for the feature inversion, the B Squared
Motorsports 17B took the green flag from 8th place. Once the feature
got started, Bill quickly began working his way to the front. By the midway
point, he was solidly in the top 5; Bill past 2 more cars and battled for 2nd
position before settling for a 3rd place finish at the end.
The team was back in
action on Saturday at the Grant County Speedway in Lancaster, WI for another
night with the IRA. This is the night the team as a whole would like to soon
forget. The night started off well as Bill turned a lap of 13.955 seconds in
qualifying, good enough for 5th quick out of 26 cars. The 17B lined
up 5th in heat race #2. He quickly began working his way forward and
soon raced his way to the lead. Just after taking the lead and opening up a
sizable margin on the rest of the field, the rear axle snapped coming out of
turn 2, send the 17B spinning down the back stretch, resulting in a 7th
place finish and a DNF. Once back in the pits, the crew of Ryan, Jeff, and Bill
quickly began repairing the B Squared Motorsports machine for the B-Main. The
repairs were finished and Bill would take the green from position #2. Bill and
the 2B of Billy Hafemann waged a good battle for the fans, with Bill coming out
with the lead, when disaster struck for the 2nd time. This time the pinion
shaft broke sending Bill to the pits, resulting in another DNF and ending the
night for Bill and the B Squared Motorsports crew. The team would like to THANK
the Bear Motorsports 2B team for all there help getting the car back in one
piece after the heat race on Saturday.
This week the team will be back in action at the Superior
Speedway in Superior, WI on Friday and then at Cedar Lake Speedway in New
Richmond, WI on Saturday. Bill and the team have a 174 point lead with 5 events
remaining on the schedule.
