Geving returns to her winning ways to take second All Pro feature victory in Petaluma

PETALUMA, CA (6-13-09) – Seventeen year-old Alissa Geving returned to her winning ways Saturday at her hometown track of Petaluma Speedway. The recent Ursuline High School graduate advanced from mid-field to garner her second All Pro Series feature event of the season and her eighth victory overall in her sprint car racing career that spans a mere three years.

“This was an incredible night for us as team and great night for all the fans and sponsors that support me, “ said Geving. “The track was very competitive tonight, very racey, super fast on the top and tacky on the bottom. It was great.”

Saturday night, Geving took to the well prepared 3/8 mile Petaluma Speedway aboard her family owned Tillett Tool, Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises Maxim Sprint Car in the form of a reigning champion. The superior track conditions made for an exciting round of qualifying for all competitors. Geving turned the second fastest lap of the night behind fellow competitor Roberto Kirby who broke the track record in his efforts with a 12:394 second lap.

In heat racing she chased Nick Ringo Jr. to the line to claim a second place finish and cap the night of preliminary action as a great success prior to the 15-car feature event. In the feature race, Geving started in the eighth position outside of her closest competitor for the 2009 All Pro championship, Bradley Terrell of Sebastopol, Entering Saturday’s competition, Geving held a three-point lead over Terrell and the duo of local high school graduates continued their friendly rivalry into this night as well.

At the waving of the green flag, Geving began driving towards the front of the field. Within two laps Geving gained four positions and one lap later worked into the top three behind leader Art McCarthy Jr. and second place Norm Johns. With seven laps complete Geving overtook Johns for the bridesmaid position and just as she closed the gap between McCarthy and herself she advanced to bride status, taking the lead as McCarthy suffered a blown tire and crashed off the third turn of the race.

For the final 11 laps of the curfew shortened race, Geving drove a flawless race on the track where her father and grandfather were known as two of the winningest drivers in the history of the Sonoma Marin County Fairgrounds track. At the checkered flag she was trailed by Terrell in second place as he made every effort to stay in the hunt for the season title. Following her performance, Geving is unofficially five points ahead of Terrell in the campaign towards her second season title.

“When I returned this season I didn’t want to focus so much on the points,” said Geving, who was surrounded by a crowd of supportive fans in the pit area after her victory. “I wanted to win more races. Winning our second race of the year really means a lot. It puts me in the position to begin improving on my record last year and the points come with the top finishes so it all comes together.”

Geving recently graduated with honors from UrsulineHigh School in Santa Rosa. Among her accolades, Geving was recognized as a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation, a member of the Senior Benard Gleason Honor Roll. She received the Scholar Leadership Award. Ursuline High School also recognized for her success in Motorsports including her driving championship in 2008 when she became the first female racing champion at Petaluma Speedway and the youngest such titlist nationwide. Geving also earned the Civil War Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year title and in 2007 was the Rookie of the Year at both Petaluma and Antioch Speedway. Later this summer Geving will move to Chico, California to attend ChicoStateUniversity, her school of choice as she hopes to continue her racing career.
