Geving heads to the battle line for Civil War Series opener in Petaluma

By Bill Sullivan

PETALUMA, CA (4-7-09) –Penngrove’s Alissa Geving, the defending Petaluma Speedway track champion, is ready to take drive her family owned Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Tillet Tool #3x sprint car into the battle zone this  Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway. Geving will be competing in the 2009 season opener for the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on track with the Civil War Series,”said Geving. “Last year we did very well in this series and I made a lot of great friends in the sport. I can’t wait to race side by side with some of them again this weekend.”

Last week Geving raced at nearby Antioch Speedway with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Cars. The night ended early after a collision in the B main caused damage to her  Maxim Sprint Car in the B-main event. Two weeks ago she began her season by working her way into the top five point standings early in the year with a fifth place finish in the first round of the Petaluma Speedway All Pro sprint car series.

Saturday will mark the first of 13 Civil War Sprint Car Series events in the region and will be one of three events at Geving’s home track of Petaluma Speedway during the tour. Last year Geving did well in her first full run with the series, scoring a top five finish in the point standings and claiming the Rookie of the Year title. This year the hometown girl that will graduate from UrslineHigh School in May isn’t focusing on the point standings, instead she is focusing on winning races.

“Last year a top five finish and the Rookie of the Year in Civil War along with the track title were both goals I set for myself,” said Geving. “But I was not happy with the number of races I won during the year. I am not going get worried about the points so much. If we finish well, the points will take care of themselves. I want to be running up front more often.”

Following Saturday’s Civil War event, Geving will resume competition in the Petaluma Speedway All Pro series on April 18. Geving’s father, Gary Geving was a three time track champion of Petaluma Speedway. As Geving focuses on more feature wins this year, a second championship title could very well become reality.
