Alissa Geving to begin defense of Petaluma Speedway All Pro title this Saturday night

PETALUMA, CA (3-23-09) – 17-year-old Alissa Geving will begin to defend her All Pro Winged Sprint Car Championship title this Saturday night at the track she calls home, the 3/8 mile Petaluma Speedway located on the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds in Petaluma. Geving made history last season when she became the youngest female racer Nationwide to capture a winged sprint car title at just 16 years of age. This year she’s focused on one thing, winning races.
“Last year I met my ultimate goal of winning a championship,” said Geving, who’s father, Gary Geving, was a three time champion at Petaluma after her grandfather Leroy “Go Get ‘Em” Geving began the family tradition of winning championships. “But I wished I had won more races during the year. This year I want to focus on winning more races and with that the points will come that could lead me to another championship title.”
Geving will pilot the Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Tillet Tool #3X Maxim Sprint car for the 2009 campaign. Geving also hopes to compete in select events with both the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series and the Civil War Sprint Car Series and will test privately in an asphalt SRL Late Model during the year.
“Over the off season we discussed racing the entire Golden State Series and that’s something I would love to do,” said Geving. “But with the current economy the funds just are not there to travel that much and supporting my local sponsors is very important. If additional sponsorship comes along its definitely something I want to do. We will compete in several GoldenState events as our schedule allows though,”
In 2008 Geving led the point standings at Petaluma Speedway for much of the season and finished in the top five nearly every single night. The local fan favorite won two feature events during her campaign. At the completion of the 2008 Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series championship campaign, Geving claimed the season title just two weeks shy of her 17th birthday by 84- points over veteran driver and former champion Art McCarthy of San Jose. During the year she claimed eight top five finishes in eleven races and was a feature winner on her hometown track a total of two times.
Two years ago, Geving became the youngest female worldwide to win a feature event in a full sized sprint car. In addition to the track championship, Geving also claimed the 2008 Rookie of the Year Award in the traveling Civil War Sprint Car Series. This is Geving’s Senior year at UrsulineHigh School where she is an honor student, boasting a grade average above 4.0. During the off season, Geving and her fellow students traveled to New Orleans in the reconstruction of homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and spent time visiting with local children that were affected by the tragedy.
