After a winter of hard work, the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series (UMSS)
is eager to begin its first season which will include 18 shows at three
different tracks. The first weekend of the UMSS brand of sprint car
racing gets underway April 24 at Kopellah Speedway in St. Croix Falls,
WI and April 25 at the legendary Cedar Lake Speedway for the annual
Billy Anderson Memorial Race
With the announcement of the UMSS
last September and with a solid schedule for 2009, new cars have been
built and cars and drivers who have sat idle for years are making a
return to the excitement of sprint car racing. New cars have been built
for:
Cody Hahn - South Dakota transplant Blake Anderson - Winged Kart Chapion and 2008 IMCA National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Jack Zweber - IMCA Sprint Car competitor Frank Larsen - Rookie. Joe Kouba's son-in-law Mike Luks - New Richmond, WI, driving for Al Hargrave Ronnie Ericson - Rookie, Former Jerry Richert Jr. pit man Anna Kouba - Rookie, Joe's 17-year-old daughter
Returning
to the sprint car wars will be Rick Sandberg, driving a car with the
UMSS spec motor in it along with Gene Kelly and Spike Lempelius. Add
long-time sprint car drivers such as: Jerry Richert Jr., Joseph Kouba,
Jonny Parson III, Leigh Thomas, Dave Becker, Brad Barickman and John
Nelson, among others. The UMSS should have strong car counts in 2009.
