Countdown to the World of Outlaws Return to Las Vegas: 1 Day
Concord, NC— February 25, 2009—The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday, February 26. The series has competed at the half-mile in 11 different seasons dating back to 1996. For 11 consecutive days the events from each of those years will be highlighted in chronological order, continuing today with the series four races at the half-mile in 2006.
Donny Schatz used lap traffic to his advantage to get around Jeremy Campbell on the 16th lap on a very windy and chilly night to score his fourth career win in Las Vegas in the opener of a two-night event on March 9, 2006. Sammy Swindell finished seventh, with Joey Saldana ninth and Chad Kemenah 10th. Also in action were Craig Dollansky and Jac Haudenschild.
Sammy Swindell, the three-time series champion was victorious in the finale at the half mile the following night over Schatz. Saldana was fifth, with early race leader Haudenschild seventh, Dollansky eighth and Kemenah 11th.
The 2006 season wrapped up for the World of Outlaws at Las Vegas, with Brooke Tatnell taking the win on the opening night in the preliminary feature over Dollansky. Danny Lasoski was third, with Saldana fifth, Schatz eighth and Kemenah 10th. Also in action were Tony Bruce Jr., Jason Sides and Haudenschild.
Donny Schatz capped off his first World of Outlaws championship in impressive fashion by winning the finale at Las Vegas over Tatnell. He took the lead on the ninth lap and didn’t look back the rest of the way, pocketing $12,000 for the triumph. Saldana was fourth, with Tony Bruce Jr. sixth, Haudenschild seventh and Kemenah 10th. Also in action were Dollansky and Lasoski.
