Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (August 20, 2007)- As the 2007 season winds down, the ASCS Patriots are set to run their first event of the year that is sanctioned by more than just ASCS.
 
The ASCS Patriots join the Empire Super Sprints and Southern Ontario Sprints in the 1^st Annual Western NY Sprint Showdown, held at Mike Lauterborn's Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY.
 
The 1/3-mile facility has not seen a sprint car race in more than 11 years, when the current track promoter graced victory lane.  Lauterborn has always dreamed of bringing sprint cars back to this location, and gets the opportunity to see it come to fruition this Saturday, with the three sanctioning bodies he competed primarily with.
 
The event is also in memory of Dave McLeod, who drove and owned cars with all three sanctioning bodies as well.  McLeod died over the winter and was a good friend of Lauterborn.
 
This event will be the only 360-sprint race in New York to run time trials all year long, which will begin at 5:00 p.m. and give each competitor two laps to lay down the best possible time.
 
The Pro-Syn Oil Technology Scramble Dash will feature 1-on-1 sprint car racing for two laps per round, with George Suprick and Chuck Hebing currently the ASCS Patriot representatives.
 
The A-Main will be 32 laps, which was the number used by McLeod for much of his career.  The winner of this special event will take home $2,000.  All competitors that start the A-Main will pick up $300.
 
Even though this is the first sprint race at the track since 1996, there was a pair of exhibition dashes held back in June.  Mike Stelter and Rob Pietz were the winners on that night.
 
This will be a show-up points only event for the ASCS Patriots, with each driver that has already run an ASCS Patriot race in 2007 receiving an equal amount of points.
 
Genesee Speedway is the first track this year that the ASCS Patriots are competing at for the first time.  Only Woodhull Raceway, which will play host the following Saturday, are new tracks for 2007 to the series, now in its fifth year.
