Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla., (August 21, 2007)- The cancellation of one event brought about the opportunity for the ASCS Patriots to travel to a new racetrack as the season winds down.
The ASCS Patriots will now travel to the Woodhull Raceway during Labor Day Weekend for the second-to-last full point show of the season. The ability for this event came about after the unfortunate cancellation of the ASCS Patriot event at the McKean County Raceway in Smethport, PA.
All of the racetracks running full point shows on the original 2007 schedule had run ASCS Patriot events in the past, but Woodhull, under the new ownership of Vern Wasson will be playing host to an American Sprint Car Series event for the first time.
"We are very appreciative of Vern and everyone at Woodhull for jumping at this opportunity," said ASCS Patriot Regional Director Mike Emhof. "Woodhull is a great track with a major fan base and I'm sure they will be out in full force in a few weeks."
Chuck Hebing leads the ASCS Patriot Point Standings, but has never seen the Woodhull Raceway and will have to learn fast as he holds just a 12-point advantage over Jared Zimbardi. Zimbardi is fresh off his third win of the season and scored a top-5 in his only career sprint car start at Woodhull.
George Suprick is the only driver to ever win multiple sprint car races at the Woodhull Raceway. The 2004 ASCS Patriot Champion won his first career feature at the extremely high-banked 1/3-mile paperclip all the way back in 1990.
Ray Preston, Don Adamczyk, Scott Kreutter, Coleman Gulick, Blake and Bobby Breen, Bryan Howland and Geoff Quackenbush are just some of the other names that will now refocus their attention on this new venue.
Look out for locals Chris Shuttleworth from Wellsville, Gary Troutman from Andover, Chris Muhleisen from Akrport and Tim Kelly from Rock Stream to invade the Stuben County oval to kick off the month of September.
All competitors are eligible to run this event, regardless of entry in any prior Patriot events this season. This will be a full-point and full-purse event, paying $1,400-to-win and $250-to-start the A-Main.
Due to excessive rainouts in 2007, McKean County Raceway was unable to run this event, which was a make-up after a May 12 rainout, one of their seven rainouts on the year. They speedway has full intentions on running the ASCS Patriots in 2008.
