Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Preview: North Central Speedway
Brainerd, MN- September 30, 2008-The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will make their inaugural visit to North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota on Friday, October 3 as the series makes their lone stop this season to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for two full nights of racing, with Princeton Speedway wrapping things up on Saturday.
North Central Speedway is a semi-banked 3/8-mile oval that hosted sprint car racing for the first time in 1973 and has hosted the open wheels machines a number of times since then. The World of Outlaws event will be the only 410-sprint car race that the track hosts this season.
Donny Schatz leads the way into North Central Speedway as he chases his third consecutive series title. The North Dakota native leads the series with 14 A-Feature wins. He has eight career wins in the state of Minnesota dating back to 1995. In his first season driving for Tony Stewart Racing, Schatz leads the World of Outlaws in Top-10 finishes. The difference between himself and Jason Meyers at the top of the series standings is 116 points.
Meyers, who is currently second in the World of Outlaws championship standings, has five Top-10 finishes in his career in the state of Minnesota in just a handful of starts. The California native has won nine times this season and leads the World of Outlaws in laps led and Top-Five finishes this season as he chases his first series title. He finished second in the World of Outlaws most recent event at Orange County Fair Speedway in New York.
Craig Dollansky, who hails from Elk River, Minnesota, will miss the event after suffering a compound fracture to his upper right on September 19 at Eldora Speedway, which required surgery. Prior to the injury he was third in points and had won eight times.
Joey Saldana has nine Top-10 finishes in 10 career starts in Minnesota, including eight consecutive. He has won five times this season and recently moved into the third spot in points, as he continues his third season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion has a remarkable record in inaugural events at tracks during his career, winning nearly 60 times. He has won four times in his career with the World of Outlaws in Minnesota. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has six victories this season and is closing in on 550 career A-Feature triumphs with the series. He won an inaugural event earlier this season for the World of Outlaws at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, North Dakota.
Jac Haudenschild, who drives for the Carnahan Motorsports team based out of Minnesota heads to the series inaugural event at North Central Speedway with plenty of momentum. He has won four times over the course of the last five weeks, including the $50,000 Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. He has nine Top-10 finishes in his career in Minnesota, including four in a row.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, has two Top-Five finishes in his career in just a few starts in the state of Minnesota, including last season. The native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia has 34 Top-10 finishes this season as he closes in on his first win of the year.
Chad Kemenah, who was the series top rookie in 2006, has 12 Top-Five finishes this season as he closes in on his first win of the season. The four-time All Star Circuit of Champions title winner is in his first full season behind the wheel for the Hard 8 Racing team.
Terry McCarl, who recently won his first race of the season at Orange County Fair Speedway in New York, has six career wins in Minnesota. The six-time Knoxville Raceway and Huset's Speedway track champion has racked up 25 Top-10 finishes this season and solidly in the ninth spot in the series standings.
Daryn Pittman has won three times in his career in Minnesota and has seven Top-10 finishes in the state. He has won four times this season and is solidly in the Top-10 in points.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. who continues his sophomore season with the World of Outlaws competed in Minnesota for the first time in his career last season. He has 16 Top-10 finishes this season including two third-place performances as he chases his first series win.
Kraig Kinser, the series top rookie in 2004, has four career Top-10 finishes in Minnesota. He won earlier this season on a 3/8-mile track at Grays Harbor Raceway in Washington and has 16 Top-10 finishes as he continues his first season driving for Tony Stewart Racing.
Jason Sides finished in the Top-10 in his first career start in the state of Minnesota back in 1999. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 16 Top-10 finishes this season as he closes in on his first win of the year.
Tony Bruce Jr. has made a couple of starts in the Land of 10,000 Lakes in his career. He won an inaugural event earlier this season when the World of Outlaws visited 34 Raceway in Iowa.
Chad Hillier, who is in his second full season on the road with the World of Outlaws, has competed with the series in Minnesota in each of the last two seasons. He has five Top-10 finishes this season as he continues to close in on the Top-15 in points.
Lucas Wolfe, who is in his first full season on the road with the World of Outlaws, will make his first trip to Minnesota to race this weekend. He recently earned a season-best third-place finish at Orange County Fair Speedway in New York.
Paul McMahan has four career Top-10 finishes in Minnesota. The veteran driver has racked up 14 Top-10 performances this season as he closes in on his first win of the year.
Brooke Tatnell, who is filling in for the injured Craig Dollansky calls Bloomington, Minnesota home. He has three career wins in his adopted home state. The native of San Souci, NSW, Australia has two Top-10 finishes filling in for Dollansky so far.
