Nine Races Remain in Battle to Decide 2008 World of Outlaws Champion
Concord, NC- September 28, 2008-With nine events remaining in the 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season, two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz leads Jason Meyers by 116 points at the top of the standings.
Schatz leads the series with 14 A-Feature wins, and has finished in the Top-10 in 52 of the 55 A-Feature events contested through September 24. He picked up his 41st Top-Five finish of the season last Wednesday night at Orange County Fair Speedway as he looks to wrap up his third consecutive series championship.
Meyers, who has won nine overall events, leads the series in laps led and Top-Five finishes, as he chases his first series title. He finished second in the series most recent event at Orange County Fair Speedway in New York to earn his 43rd Top-Five finish.
Joey Saldana picked up his 41st Top-10 finish of the season at Orange County and moved into the third spot in points. He has won five times this season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing.
Steve Kinser finished fourth at Orange County to earn his 27th Top-Five of the season and moved up to fourth in the series standings. The 20-time series champion has won six times in 2008.
Craig Dollansky, who suffered a compound fracture to his upper right arm at Eldora Speedway on September 19th, is currently fifth in points. The native of Elk River, Minnesota had won seven times and racked up 44 Top-10 finishes prior to getting injured.
Jac Haudenschild who won his fourth race of the season in thrilling fashion a week ago at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New York, remains sixth in the series standings. He has 41 Top-10 finishes this season, as he continues his first year behind the wheel for the Carnahan Motorsports team.
Kerry Madsen used a seventh-place finish at Orange County Fair Speedway last Wednesday night to remain seventh in points. The reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 35 Top-10 finishes.
Chad Kemenah, also finished in the Top-10 at Orange County and trails Madsen by just five markers as the pair continues to battle for the seventh spot. The 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 33 Top-10 finishes, with 12 of those being Top-Fives.
Terry McCarl won his first race of the season at Orange County and solidly remains in the ninth spot in points, on the strength of 25 Top-10 finishes.
Daryn Pittman, who has won four times this season and has 28 Top-10 finishes rounds out the Top-10 in the series championship standings.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action with their inaugural event at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota on Friday, October 3.
